Job Description Summary

This position is responsible to manage the GIE team for Asset Design, construction, Process Implementation and associated business assistance across the Medical Essential segment with high speed and Automated processes SM scope, and is positioned to ensure that the company's equipment design, supply, cost, etc. are aligned to business expectations. This positions leadership provides expert engineering skill, judgement, and mentoring of other engineers.
The scope to SM BU will be extended to other Medical Essential segment equipment later on.
GIE EDI teams ensure that the company's equipment design, supply and cost meet quality product output and business needs, in accordance with the industry trend and the technological innovation.

We manage the implementation of equipment from purchase order through ramp-up and assist sites once the equipment has been released to production (post ramp-up).

We provide at a BU level the following expertise:

Costing inputs to help build the most accurate business case
URS (User Requirement Specification) to describe all the criteria needed to build the appropriate equipment by the equipment manufacturer
Equipment design / Vendor Management to make sure the equipment is rightly designed at the right supplier with the right sourcing strategy
FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing) to ensure, for instance, that the equipment performance is aligned with the URS
SAT (Site Acceptance Testing) to show, for instance, that the machine behaves as expected in the plant environment
Partnering with BD factories to validate and ramp-up equipment to drive a vertical start-up and sustained performance
Factory, business and quality support post ramp-up to assist during performance / quality crisis
We handle harmonization and global expertise for equipment design in the following areas:

Equipment design qualification for quality engineering guidance, support, rules and consistency
Cross BU expertise such as Assembly, Automation & Modernization

Summary:

Develops Strategies, Collaborates and Communicates with:

Product Design Team: to ensure product is designed to enable a mfg. process which can produce product efficiently (target COGS) and to required quality standards.

Unit Quality Team: to ensure that equip. is designed/manufactured in compliance with regulatory requirements/industry standards.

Production Team: to ensure that equipment is designed for efficient production, and to support mfg. process.

Maintenance/Engineering Team: to ensure max. equip. uptime, and that equip. is designed for easy maintenance/repair

Procurement & Vendors: to ensure that equip. components meet standards/safety and can be sourced timely/cost-effective.

Plant Quality Team: to ensure that equip. is operating within specified tolerances and products meet required quality & regulatory standards.

Production Team: to validate the equipments andto ensure that equipment is operating efficiently/effectively to meet production targets.

Plant Maintenance Team: to ensure that equipment is maintained and serviced according to recommended schedules and procedures.

Program Management Team: to ensure that project meets specified requirements that equipment is delivered on time within budget.

SM WW operations manufacturing process technology across all Medical Segment manufacturing sites & all products.

Mission

  • Build competitive advantage for the business through the leverage of manufacturing process technology.
  • Participate to the definition and execute the WW SM operations strategy in the field of process engineering activities, supporting all MDS/MMS manufacturing sites globally in their manufacturing process continuous improvement and "break-through" programs and capacity expansion programs towards meeting business growth and operational excellence objectives.
  • Coordinate, with peers, adequate resources allocation to insure on-time the new development projects achievement.
  • Within Projects his/her responsibilities and field of action are focus in developing equipment for his/her Business unit. This from the URS creation to the SAT completion and approval, including vendor selection and PO. He/Her contributes to the cross-business development and processes harmonization within the medical segment.
  • He/She contribute to the innovative process and first equipment development fo the BU new product.
  • He/She manages one or several teams to perform and lead to success the above-described tasks.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop and execute the SM Process Technology Strategy:

  • Participates to the manufacturing process technology strategy as a key driver for competitive advantage: based on current and future customer and market expectations and trends in terms of quality, service, and cost; planned BD product developments and business expectations for growth, profitability and return on investment.
  • Prioritizes work, aligns the organization, and executes against the plan to deliver the defined process improvement results on time and within budget.

Process Development (Quality, Efficiency and Harmonization):

  • Ensure effective prioritization, planning and development of global process development activities to leverage the installed base of manufacturing technology to meet customer (quality) and business (efficiency) needs, as part of the Technology Strategy.
  • Ensure the related risk management creation or update activities execution. Ensures the adequate necessary equipment documentation are created and always up to date.
  • Ensure strong collaboration among the GIE community to facilitate sharing of best practice between plants and BU on local CI process improvements and ensure WW compliance to global process specifications.
  • Execute against the plan to deliver global process development which meet or exceed required specifications and efficiency requirements on time and within budget.

Functional Leadership & People Development:

  • Engage his team around the strategy. Communicate clear priorities and objectives.
  • Build a truly inclusive team organization which leverages the capabilities from all sites.
  • Provide leadership which drives engagement, performance, and results from every associate.
  • Develop a global talent pool of engineers and future leaders for MDS and BD.
  • Responsible for communicating assigned projects with the appropriate personnel and departments.
  • Leads engineers and technicians to complete projects.
  • Responsible for the design of process/equipment, responsible for user requirements specifications (URS) to ensure it meets specific manufacturing requirements.
  • Create capital appropriation documents CB-2. Responsible for Capex spending according to the forecasts (95% accuracy) at the Medical Segment level, ensuring information is accurate and reported concisely to all stakeholders.
  • Manage the integration of new equipment through Validation and ramp up completion, and support Equipment Integration during install and startup. Implement Process Design on new equipment and ensure product designs are being met.
  • Provide input and validate that the equipment design meets safety and operational standards based on experience and validation from respective stakeholders.
  • Leads suppliers and external design teams (vendor) for larger capital projects to manage cost, lead time and scope.
  • Partnerships with procurement for vendor selection.
  • Captures process performance from sites, existing equipment.
  • Takes into consideration and optimize site flow.
  • Responsible for vendor contracts in collaboration with procurement and legal.
  • Machine retrofits, upgrades of existing equipment.
  • Develop innovative concepts for mechanical systems and equipment based on project requirements, industry trends, and best practices.
  • Create, or obtain from the vendor, detailed 3D models/2D drawings of mechanical components and assemblies using CAD software.
  • Create and maintain design documentation, including user requirement specifications, assembly instructions, bill of process, etc.
  • Responsible for the facility design and construction following the BD processes to ensure the manufacturing environment and related facility equipment meets the needs of the process/equipment.
  • Optimize equipment designs to minimize production costs and changeover time, simplify assembly processes, design from the operator's standpoint, maintainability, and ensure manufacturability.
  • Design center lining of equipment.
  • Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and continue to build failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) to ensure reliability, safety, performance of mechanical systems/equipment.
  • Collaborates with manufacturing teams to build and test prototypes of mechanical systems and components, gathering feedback, iterating on design as necessary.
  • Perform various engineering analyses / simulation (i.e. stress, strain, thermal, fluid dynamics) to validate and optimize design.
  • Work closely with other engineering disciplines (i.e. electrical/mechanical engineers) to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems with other project components.
  • Ensure Smart Factory requirements are specified in the URS.
  • Support operations during a production crisis. (quality, supplier, etc.)
  • Comply with all local, state, federal, and BD safety regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Comply with all local BD quality policies, procedures, and practices through consistent application of sound quality assurance principles.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION

  • Minimum Education: B.S. in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering preferred). MBA or MS in Engineering is preferred.

Minimum Experience:

  • 10 years of progressively responsible engineering and management experience.
  • Proven leadership in project and capital management.
  • Experience preferred in operations and/or in advanced manufacturing engineering.

Other: Able to act in multicultural environment and worldwide matrix organizations.

Frequent international travel up to 30%
