Job Summary:

Responsible for assisting with the overall management of the Facilities Engineering and Maintenance functions for the physical plant. Performs assigned engineering functions associated with the operation, modification, and protection of the physical plant. This includes facility design, equipment installations and improvements, capital renovation projects, utilities, energy conservation, 3rd party contractor management and insurance/safety/regulatory compliance.

Job Responsibilities:(Primary Duties, Roles, and/or Authorities)

  • Engineering responsibility for assigned plant systems which would include HVAC, chilled water, steam, compressed air, plumbing, electrical, building management system controls programming/logic ladders, fire protection and civil/structural.
  • Assists with execution of short- and long-term facility capital upgrade roadmaps, based on site evaluation/inspections. Provides written reports to support findings.
  • Coordinate, schedule, and supervise activities involved with capital projects, which are frequently performed through a 3rd party firm.
  • Performs assessments, conceptual sizings and high-level budgetary estimates related to the development of new manufacturing spaces.
  • Oversee utility usage (electric, water and natural gas) and sustainability goals. Pursue cost reductions in energy conservation and resource/waste reduction. Make recommendations to reduce energy consumption/resource usage.
  • Evaluates and revises facilities equipment maintenance programs as required, including review of completed maintenance activities.
  • Works with Project Engineers to assess equipment moves, installs and removals. Develops work scope based on requirements and field inspections. Oversees contractors performing work scope.
  • Works with 3rd party maintenance provider to keep site in compliance with all OSHA, DEC, EPA, and building code regulations.
  • Contracts with and supervises outside contractors as required. Performs project management responsibilities on assigned projects.
  • Works closely with the EHS department to assess and prevent safety incidents involving the buildings and grounds. Works to develop effective safety programs at the facility.
  • Assist with the contract management for the 3rd party maintenance provider performing facilities maintenance, including grounds and housekeeping. Tracks related work tasks, budgets and other contracted KPI's.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in an applicable engineering science, or
  • Minimum of five (5) years of engineering experience

Knowledge and Skills:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Ability to perform routine site inspections and assessments of the physical plant.
  • Skilled in construction and project management. Ability to oversee and coordinate contractors. Resolves issues related to construction, cost, timing, work scope, etc.
  • Ability to supervise individuals in engineering, construction, and maintenance-related activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to complete assignments with limited oversight. Strong focus on maintaining project schedules with clear, effective communications.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude and excellent trouble shooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Requires strong supervisory skills, coupled with excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to define problems and resolve them quickly to keep plant operational.
  • Ability to work well with ever changing priorities and/or situations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with building codes and OSHA regulations.
  • Proficient with 2D AutoCAD functions, to develop and maintain site drawing library.

Training Requirements:

On-the-job, SOP's required for position, and GMP.

Physical Demands: (if applicable)

Frequently requires light physical effort as in periods of prolonged standing, sitting at files or worktables or bending, stooping, or reaching. Requires physical effort on an intermittent basis as in lifting, pulling, or pushing heavy, bulky, or awkward loads - up to 40 lbs. The associate is also frequently required to use hands or arms (to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, and to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl); walk; talk; hear.

Work Environment: (if applicable)

While performing the duties of this job, the associate frequently works near moving mechanical parts, and is frequently exposed to fumes/disagreeable odors, airborne particles, noise, etc. May require some exposure to chemicals used in manufacturing processes, requiring some precaution. The associate must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) required to perform this job safely.
