This 18-month contract Communications Associate role is part of the Public Affairs team in the area of Communications. Reporting into Sr. Manager Communications, this role will be responsible for supporting and executing the communications strategies that enhance the organizations public image, foster positive relationships with stakeholders and communicate key messages to target audiences through various channels and mechanisms internally and externally. The role be onsite in our offices in Mississauga Monday to Thursday, and work from home on Fridays.

Responsibilities:
- Write and edit press materials, blog posts, speeches and social media content to promote the organization's mission, initiatives and positions.
- Provide support to the Senior Manager of Communications and the VP of Public Affairs on issues management topics. This may include working in collaboration with business units to develop remarks and responses.
- Support messaging around key policy issues, public initiatives and events.
- Assist the organization with townhalls, organization-wide events and other activities organized by Public Affairs team.
- Track media coverage and public sentiment related to key issues.
- Provide regular reports on communications activities, media coverage and public perception.
- Works closely with internal stakeholders to ensure effective and consistent support and messaging on key strategic priorities.
- Manage and curate content for BD-Canada social media channels on a corporate level and regularly contribute to the annual content calendar.
- Supporting additions and updates to BD.com corporate website for news, articles and blog posts. Being accountable for updating the company intranet and ensuring updated information is available for the organization to reference.
- Engage with Human Resources to support associate engagement efforts to make BD a great place to work.
- Work in collaboration with Associate Resource Groups to profile work underway within the organization to support a positive employee experience.
Education and Experience required:
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or a related field or Business or College degree in similar field combined with relevant experience.
- 1-3 years of relevant experience in corporate communications, public affairs, media relations, or marketing communications (internships and co-op experience included).
Knowledge and Skills required:
- Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to craft clear, compelling, and on-brand content across multiple formats, including press releases, blogs, speeches, key messages, newsletters, and social media copy.
- Understanding of media relations and the news cycle, with experience in monitoring traditional and digital media, compiling coverage reports, and identifying emerging issues or opportunities.
- Experience supporting internal communications, such as drafting intranet content, preparing town hall materials, posting updates across internal channels (e.g., intranet, email bulletins, collaboration platforms), and supporting employee engagement initiatives.
- Event coordination skills, including assisting with planning and logistics for internal and external events (e.g., town halls, stakeholder meetings, community events, media events), managing guest lists, preparing run-of-show documents, and supporting onsite execution.
- Experience supporting internal communications and change management, working closely with HR and cross-functional partners to communicate organizational updates, support employee transitions, and ensure clear, consistent messaging across internal channels.
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues across departments, navigate diverse perspectives, and maintain strong working relationships.
- High degree of professionalism and diplomacy, especially when handling sensitive information, engaging with senior leaders, or balancing competing stakeholder needs.
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and adapt quickly to shifting priorities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with web content management systems (CMS) such as Unily, WordPress, or SharePoint is an asset.
- Experience using social media management tools (Hootsuite, Sprout Social, etc.) and media monitoring platforms (Meltwater, Cision) is an asset.
- Knowledge of the Canadian public affairs environment or the health-care/medical technology sector is considered an asset.
- Bilingual in French (reading, speaking, and writing) preferred but not mandatory.

Our salary or hourly rate rangesrewardassociates fairly and competitively. We regularly review these ranges and factors, such as location, contributeto the range displayed.
Our pay is based on the role and the necessary skills and education to perform it successfully. The salary or hourly rate offered isdeterminedby therole'sspecific requirements, including any applicable step rate pay system at the work location. Salary or hourly pay ranges are influenced by labor laws and Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) requirements applicable to the worklocationwhich may also affect the workplace arrangement of the role.
Salary Range Information: $60,000 - $110,000 CADAnnual
