Job Description:
Typically has 7+ years workout/corporate loan experience. Reports to the credit products head - special assets or the international special assets regional manager. Primary market contact for both internal and external communications. May have managerial responsibility for all levels of credit products special assets associates in assigned market. Experience includes knowledge of bankruptcy law, workout strategies, and commercial credit analysis, structuring and market dynamics. Has corporate special assets credit approval authority and, may become directly involved in workout strategies/negotiations. May have international responsibilities and therefore require familiarity with a multitude of different banking and legal systems, as well as senior level bankers and governmental agencies. Lead workout negotiations on agented deals where the bank is lead agent.
The Special Assets Group (SAG) Corp/Comm Senior Portfolio Officer is responsible for managing a portfolio of problem commercial credit exposures, with an emphasis on the most complex and high-risk credits. The role is central to protecting the bank's interests by developing and executing effective workout and resolution strategies focused on reducing the volatility and severity of losses and, when possible and appropriate, to maximize revenue and growth opportunities through rehabilitation and retention of existing client relationships.
Responsibilities:
• Manage a portfolio of high-risk/criticized or distressed commercial loans.
• Develop and execute workout and resolution strategies tailored to each credit situation.
• Serve as the primary contact for all loan-related communications, including borrowers, bank participants, legal counsel, and internal/external stakeholders.
• Monitor borrower performance, financial condition, and covenant compliance to ensure timely risk rating adjustments and proactive issue identification.
• Prepare credit approval documents, justify recommended strategies, and present to senior leadership for decisioning.
• Support asset quality forecasting and reporting efforts.
• Ensure compliance with internal credit policies and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with LOB partners, legal teams, and external bank groups to drive resolution outcomes.
• Coach and mentor junior associates on the team to help develop credit and corporate workout skills.
Required Qualifications:
• Minimum of 7+ years of experience in corporate workout, credit restructuring, or related risk management experience.
• Strong credit analysis and underwriting skills, including risk rating, structuring, and covenant assessment.
• Analytical/technical skills, including financial accounting, modeling and loan structuring
• Strong communication skills; ability to communicate vertically, horizontally, and externally
• Industry knowledge across multiple sectors
Desired Qualifications:
• Knowledge of Business Law, a legal aptitude, strong knowledge of contracts, and knowledge of bankruptcy law
• Ability to work independently on complex transactions while exercising sound credit judgment
• Knowledge of ancillary banking products such as treasury services, derivatives, commercial cards, and deposits
• Strong Knowledge of Commercial Loan Documentation
• Knowledge of Commercial Credit Structure
• Ability for problem solving / critical / creative thinking / mental flexibility

Pay and benefits information
Pay range
$109,500.00 - $205,900.00 annualized salary, offers to be determined based on experience, education and skill set.
Discretionary incentive eligible
This role is eligible to participate in the annual discretionary plan.
