Location Overview:
Located in the heart of Johannesburg's business district, our modern Sandton offices provide a dynamic workspace with access to top-tier amenities, vibrant local culture and connectivity via major transport routes.
Role Description:
We are seeking an Associate / Vice President to join the Equity Cash Sales team, focused exclusively on South African institutional client coverage.
The role is responsible for developing and managing relationships with domestic clients, delivering high-quality market insights, and driving cash equities flow across the South African market.
This role has a dedicated local remit and does not include international client coverage.
Responsibilities:
Client Coverage & Revenue Generation
- Build and maintain strong relationships with South Africa-based institutional clients, including asset managers, pension funds, insurers, and hedge funds
- Serve as a primary point of contact for clients on South African cash equities, providing execution ideas and market colour
- Proactively generate trade ideas and identify opportunities to drive flow and revenue across the franchise
- Deliver high-touch coverage aligned to client investment strategies and mandates

Market Insight & Trade Idea Generation
- Provide timely and actionable insights on South African equities, sectors, and macro drivers
- Analyse market dynamics including liquidity, flows, positioning, and valuation trends
- Produce regular written and verbal market commentary for clients (daily / weekly updates)
- Partner with research, trading, and sales teams to translate insights into trade ideas and execution opportunities
Internal Collaboration
- Work closely with Equity Trading, Research, and Corporate Access teams to deliver a cohesive client offering
- Contribute to corporate access and investor engagement initiatives for South African clients
- Support broader franchise objectives within the local South African equities business
Risk & Governance
- Adhere to all local regulatory requirements and internal compliance policies
- Maintain strong controls around client communication, market conduct, and trade execution
- Ensure accurate record-keeping and reporting in line with regulatory standards
What we are looking for:
Experience
- Experience in Equity Cash Sales, Sales Trading, or Equity Markets
- Strong knowledge of the South African equity market and domestic client landscape
- Demonstrated experience dealing with institutional clients based in South Africa
- Proven ability to contribute to client relationships and revenue generation
(Level will determine expectations: Associate vs VP - VP candidates should demonstrate deeper client ownership and revenue contribution.)
Technical & Functional Skills
- Solid understanding of equity market structure, execution, and liquidity dynamics
- Familiarity with trading platforms (e.g. Bloomberg) and order management systems
- Ability to interpret and communicate market data, research, and trading ideas effectively
