Position Overview
Autodesk's Platform Services and Enabling Technologies Experience Design team creates experiences for the platform capabilities that support all Autodesk products. We are seeking a Principal Experience Designer to focus on our Access ecosystem. With our large and varied customer base, there is no one-size-fits-all model. You'll be working daily with a multi-disciplinary team engaged in the hard work of changing not just an application, but the way the whole company structures its interactions with customers. You will work on strategic initiatives to create cohesive and scalable customer experiences that can be leveraged across our 100+ products serving multiple industries where people design, create, and build the future.

We care about the thoughtful design of frameworks, systems, workflows, and UI components that can be utilized by teams across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead experience design initiatives and help set strategy by evaluating and identifying the intersection of business needs, customer needs, and technical opportunities. Partner closely with product management and engineering to translate our goals into unique platform experiences
  • Plan and facilitate design-thinking exercises to break through organizational silos and collaboratively solve complex design challenges
  • Visualize and prototype intended solutions at various levels of fidelity, from high-level wireframes or mock-ups to conceptual presentations to highly technical documents and diagrams
  • Plan and conduct customer research activities and quantitative testing throughout the project lifecycle, including collaborative sessions with customers and development partners to validate designs and make iterative improvements
  • Demonstrate thought leadership by engaging with designers throughout the company and beyond to share best practices and promote collaboration
  • Advanced expert role, requiring deep subject-matter knowledge and sound business acumen to advise leaders
  • For jobs at this level, knowledge of the business starts to become as important as subject-matter knowledge
  • Incumbents translate specialized subject-matter requirements into business needs/requirements
  • Require depth of specialized expertise to interpret internal/external business issues and recommend best practices to address them
  • Solve complex problems that require in-depth evaluation of variable factors by taking a broad perspective to identify the best approach and innovative solutions
  • Work independently, with close guidance in only the most complex or unusual situations
  • Adapt communication style to persuade various stakeholders across the business and frequently interact with senior leaders to provide advice and SME
  • May lead functional teams or programs within own function (or closely related functions)

Minimum Qualifications

  • 8+ years of related professional user experience design and customer research experience
  • Demonstrated experience in leading cross-functional teams in problem definition and analysis, understanding customer workflows, creating prototypes and designs that solve customer problems
  • Desire to work autonomously, own projects from end to end, and collaborate with globally distributed Agile teams
  • Excellent visual and verbal communication skills with the ability to distill complex ideas, and large amounts of data and viewpoints, to their essence.
  • Ability to build credibility, trust, and authority across a network of peers, stakeholders, and teammates
  • Expert in UI and human-centered design principles, with extensive knowledge and experience applying various techniques throughout the design process.
  • Ability to customize or evolve design processes to fit project needs, including larger and more complex projects
  • Capability to promote participation, listening, and alignment and broad engagement in meetings
  • Experience in mentoring other UX designers
