Role Overview

The Plant HR Manager is responsible for driving Aptiv's people strategy at the manufacturing facility in Chennai. This role partners closely with plant leadership to build a high-performance culture, ensure compliance, strengthen talent pipelines, and foster a safe, engaged, and inclusive workplace. The Plant HR Manager acts as a strategic advisor while owning critical HR processes for a large-scale, fast-paced, global automotive manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic HR Business Partnership

  • Partner with Plant Head and leadership teams to align HR strategy with business goals.
  • Provide data-driven insights to influence workforce planning, productivity initiatives, and organization design.
  • Drive Aptiv's culture pillars: safety, innovation, inclusion, and continuous improvement.

2. Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning

  • Lead end-to-end recruitment for plant roles (operators to mid-management).
  • Build a strong talent pipeline through campus hiring, apprenticeships (NAPS/NATS), and local partnerships.
  • Plan manpower in line with production cycles, new product launches, and volume fluctuations.

3. Employee Relations & Compliance

  • Maintain harmonious employee relations and proactively address grievances.
  • Ensure compliance with all labor laws applicable in Tamil Nadu (Factories Act, Standing Orders, CLRA, Shops & Establishment, etc.).
  • Manage statutory audits, contractor compliance, and liaison with government authorities.

4. Learning & Development

  • Drive skill development initiatives for operators and staff aligned with Aptiv's technical and behavioral competencies.
  • Facilitate leadership development programs and succession planning at plant level.
  • Create annual training calendars and ensure 100% compliance on mandatory programs (Safety, POSH, Quality, etc.).

5. Performance Management

  • Drive the performance management cycle for plant teams, ensuring fairness and managerial capability.
  • Coach managers on feedback, goal setting, and capability building.
  • Identify high-potential employees and enable development interventions.

6. Compensation & Benefits

  • Support annual compensation planning, market benchmarking, wage revisions, and operator-level salary structure compliance.
  • Ensure transparent administration of plant incentive schemes and productivity-linked rewards.

7. HR Operations & Systems

  • Own HR dashboards, people metrics, attendance, payroll inputs, and workforce analytics.
  • Ensure strong adherence to Aptiv HR systems (Workday, HR portals, etc.).
  • Strengthen SOPs, HR governance, and process improvements at plant.

8. Culture, Engagement & EHS Support

  • Champion employee engagement, DE&I initiatives, and community outreach (CSR).
  • Partner with EHS teams to reinforce a zero-defect, zero-accident culture.
  • Handle internal communication for plant-level change management initiatives.

Qualifications & Experience

  • MBA/MSW in HR from a reputed institution.
  • 8-12 years of HR experience with at least 3-5 years in a plant HR leadership role (automotive/electronics manufacturing preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of Indian labor laws and hands-on experience with IR in Tamil Nadu.
  • Proven ability to operate in a fast-paced, matrixed global organization.
  • Fluency in Tamil (mandatory) and English.
