The Control Engineer is responsible for developing, maintaining, and improving all automation and control systems used across production processes at the Mexico Plant. The role ensures stable machine performance, robust error-proofing, reliable data acquisition, and seamless integration of equipment into manufacturing and traceability systems.

This position plays a key role in supporting industrialization, improving process capability, and ensuring compliance with IAS and automotive standards for safety, quality, and production efficiency.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, modify, and optimize PLC, HMI, and automation programs to ensure stable, repeatable, and efficient equipment performance. This includes enhancing control logic to improve cycle times, OEE, process reliability, and compliance with safety and automotive standards. The role ensures that automation solutions are robust, well-documented, and technically aligned with IAS engineering guidelines.
- Support the commissioning of new equipment and contributes to all controls-related aspects of industrialization. This includes validating communication between machines, sensors, vision systems, and traceability or MES systems, as well as ensuring that equipment meets functional, quality, and safety requirements during launch. The Control Engineer participates in APQP activities to define and validate control requirements for new products and processes.
- Serve as the technical reference for resolving automation issues, diagnosing faults in PLCs, sensors, networks, and control logic. The position collaborates closely with Production and Maintenance to perform root-cause analysis of alarms, downtime, or repeated process failures, and implements robust corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Define, implement, and maintain error-proofing (poka-yoke) solutions that guarantee product conformity and prevent defects. The Control Engineer supports process capability improvements by optimizing automation parameters, monitoring key control points, and ensuring that process controls are robust and aligned with customer and internal requirements.
- Ensure proper data acquisition from production equipment, supporting internal and customer traceability requirements. This includes configuring field devices, communication protocols, barcode/RFID systems, and measurement interfaces to maintain reliable and accurate data flow across systems.
- Maintain all controls-related technical documentation, including PLC program backups, electrical schematics, device configurations, and standard procedures. The Control Engineer ensures that automation systems comply with safety regulations, lockout/tagout procedures, and IAS technical standards, supporting audits and customer requirements.
- Actively contribute to continuous improvement projects, focusing on enhancing automation performance, reducing downtime, and increasing process stability. The role collaborates closely with global engineering teams to share best practices, align standards, and support global initiatives.
- Provide training and technical guidance to technicians and operators when needed and support customer interactions related to quality topics, including issue resolution, sample submissions, and improvement plans.
Must Haves (Basic Qualifications):
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 2-5 years of hands-on experience in automation, controls engineering, or industrial controls within an automotive or high-volume manufacturing environment.
- Proven experience with PLC programming and troubleshooting.
- Practical exposure to equipment commissioning, debugging, and industrialization, including integration of sensors, drives, safety devices, and communication networks.
- Familiarity with APQP, process validation, and automotive production requirements is considered an advantage.
- Fluent English proficiency, with strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with multicultural and cross-functional teams.
- Strong technical competence in PLC logic, HMI configuration, control circuits, and automation architecture.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, technical drawings, and control documentation.
- Solid understanding of error-proofing methods, process control, and capability improvement through automation.
- Analytical and structured problem-solving skills, using methods such as 8D, 5Why, and systematic troubleshooting.
- Effective collaboration with cross-functional teams, particularly Production, Maintenance, Quality, and Engineering.
- Clear and concise communication, both written and verbal.
- High level of ownership, organization, and accountability in technical tasks.
- Proficiency in MS Office; experience with MES or traceability systems is a plus.
