As a Software Engineer at Applied Materials, you'll dive deep into ground-breaking technologies-like machine learning and AI-to craft novel software solutions that solve our customers' high-value problems. Our Software Engineers are responsible for designing, prototyping, developing, and debugging software solutions for semiconductor equipment components and devices to ensure quality and functionality. You'll develop software documentation and test procedures, troubleshoot software problems, and communicate with internal customers to understand project requirements. As part of our team, you'll contribute your expertise in intricate systems, deciphering code, and anticipating software behaviors to ensure Applied remains the leader in the semiconductor and display sectors.

We are responsible for designing and building the next‑generation core software infrastructure that underpins Applied Materials' future platforms. The team owns critical, cross‑cutting software foundations with a strong emphasis on scalability, performance, reliability, and long‑term architectural evolution. Our work enables product teams across the company to innovate on top of a robust, extensible software platform that will drive the next generation of Applied machines.
What you'll be doing?
- Design, develop, and evolve core platform and full‑stack software solutions used across Applied Materials' products.
- Own end‑to‑end software components, from backend services to user‑facing applications.
- Drive architectural decisions with a focus on scalability, reliability, maintainability, and long‑term evolution.
- Troubleshoot complex software issues and design high‑quality, durable solutions.
- Define software specifications, technical designs, and test strategies for critical platform components.
- Produce high‑quality documentation and promote best practices across the development lifecycle.
- Collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams and stakeholders to align requirements, architecture, and delivery plans.
- Contribute technical leadership and mentorship within the team as needed.
What you should have?
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a closely related technical field.
- 4-7 years of experience developing production‑grade software systems.
- Strong proficiency in Python and Java for backend development.
- Experience building modern web applications using React and TypeScript.
- Experience working with .NET-based services or components in multi‑technology environments.
- Proven ability to design, build, and maintain end‑to‑end, highly reliable software systems at scale.
Advantages
- Experience with containerized and cloud‑native environments, including Docker and Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with AI‑assisted coding tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or similar productivity tools.
- Master's degree in a related technical field.
- Strong understanding of industry best practices and business drivers.
- Ability to think system‑wide and understand how platforms enable multiple products and teams.
- Technical leadership experience, including leading small projects or influencing architectural decisions.
