Role Summary
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Optical Module Engineer to lead the end to end development, qualification, and productionization of optical modules. This role spans from optical architecture definition and module design through characterization, calibration, qualification (on tool and off tool), and volume manufacturing.
You will act as a technical owner for complex optical modules, driving cross functional collaboration with Optical, Mechanical, Display, System, Software, Product Design, and Manufacturing teams, as well as external suppliers. This position requires strong system level thinking, hands on engineering execution, and the ability to solve complex problems independently.
Experience and or passion for working with and supporting customers, being the voice of the customer and interface to Applied Materials.

Key Responsibilities
Optical Architecture & Module Development
• Define and drive new optical and imaging module architectures, with deep understanding of system requirements, optical and display behavior, and human visual perception
• Use geometrical and/or wave optics tools to design optical modules and assess performance limits and trade offs
• Translate optical requirements into clear technical plans, schedules, and deliverables, ensuring predictable execution
• Communicate architectural choices, risks, and trade offs clearly to a broad technical audience
Module Integration, Calibration & Qualification
• Lead and support on tool and off tool module integration, calibration, and qualification
• Define, execute, and own qualification and calibration plans for optical modules and complex non system components
• Ensure module performance meets specifications through structured validation and data analysis
• Act as tool / module owner, supporting tool build activities and complex system integration
• Serve as 3rd level escalation for advanced debugging and root cause analysis
Characterization, Data & Quality
• Develop and apply novel characterization techniques to measure key performance metrics of advanced optical components and modules
• Perform statistical analysis to evaluate optical performance, quality, and repeatability
• Ensure accuracy of manufacturing processes and reliability of optical testing and characterization methods
Manufacturing & Supplier Engagement
• Work closely with optical manufacturing suppliers to develop new fabrication, assembly, and alignment techniques
• Regularly visit suppliers to support engineering builds, qualification, and failure analysis
• Support ramp from prototype to high volume manufacturing, identifying and mitigating technical and production risks
• Generate and maintain production and engineering documentation, including specifications, build books, ATPs, test flows, and FA procedures
Leadership & Cross Functional Collaboration
• Provide technical leadership on projects with moderate to high complexity
• Collaborate effectively across Optical, Mechanical, Electrical, Motion, System, Manufacturing, and Operations teams
• Mentor junior engineers and act as a technical reference and design enabler
• Communicate complex concepts clearly and influence decisions across organizations

Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Physics, Optical Sciences, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or a closely related field
• 10+ years of relevant industry experience in optical modules, optical systems, or related hardware development
• Proven experience leading optical module design, integration, calibration, and qualification
• Strong knowledge of optical engineering principles and hands on problem solving skills
• Experience working with manufacturing partners and suppliers, including build and on site support
• Demonstrated ability to independently solve complex, system level problems
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Expert technics in at least one R&D discipline-- Consumer Electronics / Optics and Optical Modules

Preferred Qualifications
• Master's or Ph.D. in Physics, Optical Sciences, EE, Materials Science, or related field
• Experience leading projects or technical workstreams
• Ability to prototype, design experiments (DOE), and perform advanced data analysis
• Expertise across multiple R&D domains (e.g., Optics, Electronics, Motion, Systems)
• Experience developing and qualifying production level documentation (Build Books, ATPs, calibration procedures)
• Background in managing domestic and international suppliers
• Experience in high volume manufacturing environments
