Position Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Metrology / Defect Management Engineer to join our Photonics Platform Business Group. This role is responsible for developing and managing defect inspection strategies using Camtek systems and SEM vision tools to support new product introduction (NPI) and high-volume manufacturing.

The engineer will drive defect learning, classification accuracy, and yield improvement by establishing robust inspection recipes, defect libraries, and analytical frameworks. This role will work closely with R&D, integration, failure analysis (FA), equipment, and manufacturing teams to ensure effective defect detection, root cause identification, and continuous yield enhancement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and manage Camtek inspection strategy, including recipe setup, optimization, and modification to support NPI and production needs.
  • Partner with R&D and NPI teams to enable defect inspection readiness for new products transitioning into manufacturing.
  • Support Singapore engineering and manufacturing teams in defect scan operations, troubleshooting, and process optimization.
  • Drive defect classification accuracy, including recipe tuning and algorithm optimization to minimize overkill and underkill.
  • Establish and maintain a comprehensive defect library, including systematic defect tagging, classification standards, and reference datasets.
  • Perform defect Pareto analysis and identify top yield detractors; lead actions to reduce defect density and improve yield performance.
  • Lead defect troubleshooting and root cause investigations by correlating inspection data with process, integration, and test results.
  • Utilize SEM vision tools to validate defect types, confirm classification accuracy, and support physical failure analysis.
  • Collaborate closely with integration and FA teams to assign root cause and drive corrective/preventive actions.
  • Work with equipment engineering teams to ensure optimal performance and uptime of Camtek and SEM vision tools, including hardware and software improvements.
  • Define and implement defect monitoring strategies, KPIs, and control plans for both NPI and high-volume manufacturing.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance inspection sensitivity, throughput, and cost efficiency.
  • Document best practices, SOPs, and training materials for defect management processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of semiconductor industry experience, with at least 3 years in defect inspection, metrology, or yield engineering.
  • Hands-on experience with Camtek inspection systems (recipe setup, optimization, defect classification).
  • Experience with SEM vision / e-beam inspection tools for defect verification and analysis.
  • Strong understanding of semiconductor fabrication processes and defect mechanisms (lithography, etch, deposition, CMP, etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience in defect troubleshooting, classification, and yield improvement methodologies.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., JMP, Python, Excel) for Pareto, trend, and statistical analysis.
  • Experience in correlating inline defect data with yield and failure analysis results.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with ability to drive root cause analysis across cross-functional teams.
  • Good communication skills to collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and R&D stakeholders.
  • Experience in photonics or advanced packaging is a plus.
