Manager, Global Freight and Transportation (Operational Execution)
Key Responsibilities
This people manager role will report to the Director of Global Freight and Transportation. It requires a broad level of experience in and understanding of the various global and regional transportation networks (Bulk Air, Ocean, Small Parcel, and Bulk Ground) and support functions (Control Towers, TMS, and developing training). It will lead an international team responsible for the effective execution of the Applied Materials Silicon Product Group Global Freight and Transportation network. Specifically, the role will be responsible for the following activities:
- Leadership
- Administers company policies such as employee yearly objectives setting and performance reviews, training, and safety/security compliance.
- Working with direct employees to ensure their professional development including coaching, mentoring, holding regular feedback sessions, and ensuring that each employee participates in the Applied training program.
- Holding and participating in weekly staff meetings to ensure alignment to business goals.
- Holding and participating in weekly employee 1x1's.
- Functional Accountabilities
- Develop strategy with WMO leadership and establish an execution plan to ensure an effective transportation network.
- Lead transportation provider performance management meetings to drive continuous operational excellence in key service levels including but not limited to on time performance, defects per million (missing, wrong, and damage), safety, and EDI execution (timeliness and accuracy). When service levels do not meet expectations, develop and execute against performance improvement plans.
- Actively participate in and execute action items coming from Monthly Business Reviews lead by the Commodity Business Management team.
- Manage cross dock providers to ensure optimal shipment consolidation contributing to higher levels of logistics productivity.
- Perform reconciliations, validations and audits for cross dock hub inventory operations that are associated with transportation arrangement.
- Manage and onboard volumes transitioned into new transportation networks to ensure operational stability.
- Field, manage, and resolve escalations when performance defects are observed.
- Ensure proper freight infrastructure and capabilities are in place for new projects implementations.
- Ensure loss and damage claims are effectively filed.
- Establish proper process documentation and quality control.
- Collaboration
- Collaborate with WMO Global Freight and Transportation team members to ensure operational performance and achieving organizational objectives.
- Collaborate with cross functional organizations including WMO Supply Chain, Commodity Business Management, Network Management, Packaging Engineering, Finance, Trade Compliance, and Human Resources.
- Participate in the goal setting process by developing / contributing to specific projects to achieve defined organizational objectives. This includes crosscut or matrixed objectives.
- General
- Collaborate and share knowledge with cross functional teams on any new freight lanes or initiatives.
- Seek out industry's transportation management best known methods and evaluate internal adoption opportunities.
- Partner with Applied Packaging to seek out opportunities of packaging improvements to ensure product safety and logistics cost productivity.
- Work closely with management to drive corporate initiatives.
- Utilize operations data visualizations and collaborate with data scientists to enable dashboards/reports that supports effective and efficient data analysis and problem solving.
Minimum Requirements: Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in industrial engineering, logistics operations, transportation management, supply chain, or related field.
- Demonstrated experience in leading logistics projects and new implementations.
- Experience in transportation operations management.
- Minimum 5-8 years relevant operations experience in Transportation and Logistics disciplines.
- At least 5 years' experience in Logistics Service Providers management
Knowledge & Skills:
- Strong people management skills across various cultures.
- Strong understanding and market insights of Global Freight and Transportation.
- Ability to demonstrate high sense of urgency.
- Highly adaptable in a fast paced, dynamic environment.
- Accustomed to taking accountability for ensuring that projects are completed in a timely manner.
- Internally driven and proactive in approach.
- Attention to details and analytical in problem solving.
- Demonstrates in-depth understanding of concepts, theories and principles in Freight and Transportation Management. Knowledge in supply chain management is an added advantage.
- Impacts the level of service and the team's ability to meet quality, volume, and timeliness objectives.
- Guided by policies and resource requirements within business unit, department or sub-function.
- Identifies and resolves technical, operational, and organizational problems.
- Analytical and use of data to drive solutions.
- Knowledge of Problem-Solving Tools (such as 8D, DMAIC).
- Applies understanding of the industry and how own area contributes to the achievement of overall business objective.
- High level of Business Acumen. Ability to connect business requirements to logistics solutions.
- Ability to deal with ambiguity.
- Ability to lead within own team and across functions (Team Leadership).
- Guides, influences, and persuades others internally in related areas or externally.
- Good communication skills at all levels.
