Description

We're looking for a Senior Full Stack Software Engineer to build tools that support Apple's people around the world. Using web and native technologies - HTML5, PHP, CSS, JavaScript, MySQL, Swift, Symfony, and Drupal - we create applications that let Apple's employees focus on their roles and feel supported in their daily work.

This role is back-end weighted: you'll spend most of your time designing and shipping secure, scalable Drupal and Symfony applications. You'll also build the user-friendly, accessible front-end interfaces that put those systems in people's hands. This is a senior lead role for someone who can run projects autonomously - scoping work with business partners, managing priorities and customer feedback, and driving delivery end to end - without day-to-day direction. You'll bring strong problem-solving skills, clear communication, and a collaborative mindset to a team that owns its work end to end.

Responsibilities:

Design, build, and operate secure Drupal and Symfony applications used by Apple employees worldwide

Own applications end to end - from concept and architecture through deployment and day-to-day operations

Run projects autonomously: partner directly with business groups to translate requirements into scalable enterprise software, manage priorities, and incorporate customer feedback throughout delivery

Apply secure coding practices, including input validation and access control, across the stack

Build user-friendly, accessible front-end interfaces that meet modern accessibility standards

Build systems that scale across multiple regions and languages and handle peak load for a global user base

Optimize application and database performance, including debugging and tuning SQL queries

Integrate applications with authentication and third-party services, and incorporate AI tooling into the development lifecycle

Contribute to a culture of quality and reliability through code review, sound engineering standards, and continuous improvement

Preferred Qualifications

Developing custom Drush commands and background/queue processes, with a focus on performance tuning

Strong SQL skills, including optimizing and debugging queries to improve performance

Writing automated tests (e.g., PHPUnit, Kernel/functional tests)

Integrating applications and authentication using OAuth, SAML, and single sign-on

Integrating AI tools into the application development lifecycle

Search integration (e.g., Apache Solr, Elasticsearch)

NoSQL data stores (e.g., Redis)

Building and maintaining Extract-Transform-Load (ETL) processes across a variety of data sources

Designing systems that scale across multiple locations and languages and handle peak load for a global user base

Load testing and advanced troubleshooting of production applications

CI/CD pipelines, container-based systems for deployment and local development, and managing configuration/deployments across multi-environment architectures

Distributed version control with Git

Building user-friendly, accessible front-end interfaces (Twig, JavaScript, CSS) that meet accessibility standards

React or Swift application development

Leading engineering projects and driving delivery, including Agile facilitation, code review, and mentoring peers

Minimum Qualifications

Deep, hands-on experience with Symfony and Drupal, including complex custom module development, object-oriented PHP, design patterns, and dependency management with Composer

Proven ability to own production applications end to end - from concept and architecture through deployment and day-to-day operations - and to drive projects autonomously with business partners

Experience applying secure coding practices across the stack, including input validation and access control

Experience designing and consuming RESTful web services and APIs (e.g., JSON:API, REST)

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
