The Controllership function within Finance is pivotal in ensuring that our company spends our resources thoughtfully so that we can continue to adapt to this ever-changing environment. In order to empower the controllers of each function at Apple with modern tools to budget, forecast, analyze, track, and report expenses efficiently and effectively, we are looking for a Product Manager who will own and evolve a suite of applications tailored for Apple's Finance Controllers. This role focuses on critical financial processes including budgeting, operational expenditure (Opex) and spend management, purchase approvals, tracking actuals spend, forecasting, reporting and analytics, travel and entertainment (T&E) spend, headcount management, and contractor oversight.

You will be the product owner for tools that provides Controllers with accurate data, insightful analytics, and efficient workflows for financial planning, control, and strategic decision-making. You will partner closely with Finance Transformation, Controller teams across multiple FP&A functions, IS&T, and senior Finance leaders to streamline financial processes, enhance data integrity, and deliver world-class user experiences that drive financial accuracy and strategic insights for thousands of Apple employees.
Description
As the Product Manager for Finance Controllers' Applications, you will own end-to-end product responsibility for designing and delivering Apple's internal financial platforms with a focus on enhancing financial control, accuracy, and strategic insight. You would be working with engineering teams to provide detailed functional specifications on how the front-end application should behave and how the backend data should be queried, structured, and utilized. You would retrieve this information by working with finance controllers to understand their problems and use your technical and business ability to ascertain the solutions while obtaining their approval through requirements or rapid prototyping.","responsibilities":"Budgeting & Forecasting Tools: Define features for intuitive budget creation, including the generation of budgets, tracking and communication of the approval or denial of line items, tracking Actuals spend against budgets, allocating approved budgets into forecasts, scenario planning, forecast adjustments, and variance analysis.
Opex & Spend Management: Develop capabilities for real-time spend tracking, categorization, anomaly detection, and cost center reporting.
Reporting & Analytics: Design and implement robust reporting dashboards, self-service analytics tools, and data visualization features for financial performance and compliance.
Headcount & Contractor Management: Create tools for tracking, forecasting, and managing personnel-related costs and allocations.
Prototyping & Functional Design: Showcase complex backend logic using SQL and schema design, and use an appropriate medium (Python/Streamlit, wireframes, Tableau) to express intuitive UI features and processes.
AI-Powered Intelligence: Define use cases for predictive forecasting, automated anomaly detection in financial transactions, and intelligent data reconciliation, partnering with AI/ML teams on capabilities and accuracy.
Solution Architecture Partnership: Work with Engineering to define system capabilities without designing technical implementation, making informed trade-offs on scope and timeline.
With Finance Stakeholders: Collaborate with Finance Controllers across multiple functions to challenge requests, share data insights, and ensure alignment with financial policies and strategic objectives.
With Engineering: Respect technical constraints while advocating for user needs, collaborating on feasibility and integration with existing systems (e.g., ERPs, data warehouses).
With Business Partners: Pilot solutions with various business units, gather feedback on data accuracy and usability, and provide visibility into financial performance and control.
Prioritization: Make data-informed decisions on what to build next based on financial impact, efficiency gains, and user value.
Success Metrics: Define and track key metrics such as application usability, speed, reporting cycle time reduction, data quality for financial insights, and user satisfaction.
User Feedback: Establish mechanisms for ongoing feedback from Finance Controllers and their teams.
Apple Standards: Ensure all products meet high bars for user experience, privacy, security, and accessibility.
Ethical AI: For AI features, ensure accuracy validation, bias detection in financial models, transparency in decisions, and human review for critical financial situations.
Preferred Qualifications
Financial Domain Expertise: Deep understanding of financial planning and analysis (FP&A), budgeting, forecasting, opex/spend management, financial reporting, and controllership functions, including experience with T&E, headcount, and contractor management
Technical Expertise: Proficient in SQL and schema design for data analysis and modeling of financial systems and strong understanding of UI/UX design principles for crafting intuitive user interfaces
Enterprise Systems: Experience with budgeting and forecasting applications (e.g. Adaptive, Anaplan), Purchase Requisition systems (e.g. Coupa, Ariba), or similar procurement/finance systems
Business-to-Functional Translation: Ability to work between Finance Controllers, financial analysts, and Engineering teams, translating complex financial processes into clear product requirements and functional prototypes
AI & Automation: Interest in AI/ML applications for predictive financial modeling, anomaly detection in spend, automated reporting, and intelligent workflow automation within financial processes.
Stakeholder Management: Proven ability to influence without authority across Finance, Engineering, and business partners.
User-Centered Mindset: Design workflows that delight users and simplify complex financial tasks.
Comfort with Complexity: Navigate ambiguity across Finance, Legal, IS&T, and multiple business units.
Data Fluency: Analyze financial data, identify trends, and leverage insights to drive product decisions.
Technical Fluency: Discuss APIs, data models, SQL queries, UI/UX patterns, and UI development with Engineering.
Financial Acumen: Understand financial controls, compliance requirements, and business impact.
Bias for Action: Run pilots, gather data, learn, and scale quickly.
Growth Mindset: Eagerness to continuously learn and adapt to evolving financial landscapes and technologies.
MBA or technical graduate degree is a plus.
Minimum Qualifications
5+ years in Product Management or Business Systems Analysis within Enterprise applications, FinTech, Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), or ERP systems.
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.

Pay & Benefits
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $172,100 and $258,600, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs.
