Software Engineer - AML - Ai & Data Platforms

We are looking for a Software Engineer - AML - Ai & Data Platforms, who will work closely with other Software Engineers, Project & Product Managers, Product Designers, and other internal & external partners.

AI & Data Platforms (AiDP) is IS&T's engine for AI-powered innovation. The team brings together data, application development, and machine learning - including generative AI - along with data services and customer success functions, to help IS&T build solutions more efficiently and streamline the adoption and embedding of generative AI across Apple.

Description

As part of the ACM Platform team, you will design, develop, and operate high-throughput, low-latency distributed services that support more than 1,500 internal users across Apple. You will work closely with engineering, product, fraud analysts, and business partners to build scalable platform capabilities that improve fraud detection and case management.

Responsibilities:

Design and develop scalable backend services using Java and distributed systems principles.

Build and maintain high-throughput and low latency API's

Build reliable, scalable, and observable cloud-native services using technologies such as Kubernetes, Kafka, OpenSearch, Solr, and Cassandra.

Contribute to platform modernization, including service migrations, data routing, ingestion pipelines, and infrastructure improvements.

Develop and enhance deployment automation, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, performance testing, and operational tooling.

Troubleshoot production issues, perform performance tuning, and improve service reliability and operational efficiency.

Partner with Product, Architecture, and other engineering teams to translate requirements into well-designed technical solutions.

Contribute to technical design discussions, code reviews, testing strategies, and engineering best practices.

Use AI-assisted development tools and modern engineering practices to improve developer productivity, automation, code quality, and platform innovation.

Independently own features and services while collaborating closely with senior engineers on larger platform initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience developing cloud-native applications and working with Kubernetes.

Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and perform performance analysis and optimization.

Familiarity with AI concepts, LLM-based development tools, or AI-assisted software engineering is a plus.

Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to independently deliver well-defined technical projects.

Good communication and collaboration skills across engineering and cross-functional teams.

Self-motivated, accountable, and comfortable taking ownership of components and features from design through production.

Minimum Qualifications

B.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent professional work experience.

4+ years of software engineering experience developing backend or distributed systems.

Strong Java development experience, preferably with modern JDK versions

Hands on coding experience with Python

Good understanding of distributed systems, concurrency, scalability, reliability, and fault-tolerant design.

Hands-on experience with some combination of Kafka, OpenSearch/Elasticsearch, Solr, Cassandra, or similar distributed technologies.

Pay & Benefits

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $134,700 and $203,000, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
