Description

Our platform engineering team in HWE Ops builds the infrastructure for applications that are core to Apple's Hardware Engineering R&D. As part of this team, you will have the opportunity to design, deploy, and maintain state-of-the-art cloud-native platform with a strong emphasis on automation and software engineering principles.

Success in this role means collaborating closely with software and quality assurance engineers to enable high-quality software delivery and enhance our services' reliability. You will apply your deep understanding of web application development, modern frameworks, and production engineering to solve unique challenges. This is a highly creative and R&D-driven role that offers a compelling mix of DevOps, SRE, and software engineering tasks, providing a unique opportunity for professional growth.","responsibilities":"Develop Platform Solutions: Engineer high-impact, reusable software solutions that will be adopted across a multitude of applications, significantly improving the efficiency of Hardware Engineering's operations at Apple.

Build and Automate: Write and deploy robust infrastructure as code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform, FluxCD, and ArgoCD to drive automation across the platform.

Enhance Observability: Improve application monitoring with our Observability and OpenTelemetry tools, by building out SLOs, helping teams understand performance metrics, and fostering a culture of meaningful, actionable alerts.

Drive Innovation: Run proof-of-concept projects to evaluate and implement improvements in automation, security, and reliability for both the platform and its applications. This includes new 3rd party tool integrations, libraries and frameworks.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience

Experience with GitOps, Helm, ArgoCD, or FluxCD

Experience building Incident Management procedures

Experience building SLO dashboards and observability frameworks

Familiarity with Security and Compliance best practices

Experience with cloud Cost Management

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience

3+ years of Experience as a Software Engineer working on Web Application Development working a software engineer

5+ years working with Infrastructure as Code

5+ years working with one or more major cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure)

5+ years of experience managing Linux and containerized environments such as Kubernetes, Nomad, or Docker Swarm

5+ years of experience working with Production environments

Strong understanding of SDLCs and supporting tools

Strong experience with common infrastructure components, including load balancing, container orchestration, and database systems

Excellent understanding of software design principles and architecture

Hands-on experience developing Continuous integration pipelines

Hands-on experience with one or more common web frameworks

Experience supporting Production environments

At least one object oriented language (e.g., Java, PHP, Ruby, JavaScript/TypeScript)
