The Analytics Platforms & Experiences (APX) team is at the forefront of revolutionising Data Engineering. We drive significant increases in efficiency and productivity through a flawless ecosystem of frameworks and products that unlock observability, knowledge and enable data quality-driven orchestration at scale. APX is part of the broader Apple Services Engineering division that powers App Store, Apple TV+, Apple Music, Apple Podcasts, Apple Books, Fitness+, the iTunes Store and more.
The APX Bedrock team is seeking a Senior Data Platform Architect to lead the design and evolution of next-generation data platform capabilities. In this role, you will architect scalable solutions that enable data engineers across Apple to build applications with speed, confidence, and quality. You'll be at the forefront of integrating AI-powered workflows into data engineering practices while ensuring enterprise-grade reliability and performance.

Description
As a Senior Data Platform Architect on the APX Bedrock team, you will have significant responsibility and influence in shaping the future of data engineering at Apple. This is a senior technical leadership position requiring deep expertise in data platform architecture, advanced data processing systems, and modern AI-enhanced workflows.
Key responsibilities include:
Architect and design scalable data platform solutions that serve enterprise-wide analytics needs
Lead technical strategy for data orchestration, quality monitoring, and metadata management systems
Drive innovation in AI-powered data engineering workflows and automation
Define technical standards and best practices for data platform development
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-impact platform capabilities
Mentor engineering teams and influence technical direction across the organization
Ensure operational excellence and reliability of critical data infrastructure
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with cloud-native data platforms and containerization technologies (Kubernetes)
Strong background in data governance, lineage, and quality management systems
Experience with AI-powered development tools and workflow automation
Proven ability to lead technical teams and drive architectural decisions
Experience with modern data stack technologies and emerging industry trends
Minimum Qualifications
Master's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience
8+ years of hands-on experience architecting and building large-scale data platforms using technologies like Spark, Flink, and modern orchestration frameworks
Expert-level programming skills in Java, Scala, or Go, with strong Python capabilities
Proven experience designing and operating distributed data systems (Hadoop, HDFS, Kafka, Airflow)
Deep understanding of data processing patterns, streaming architectures, and real-time analytics
Experience integrating AI/ML capabilities into data engineering workflows
Track record of delivering enterprise-grade platforms with high availability and performance requirements

Pay & Benefits
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $171,600 and $302,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple's Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
