Optical Systems Integration Engineer
As part of Hardware Test Engineering at Apple your work will encourage innovation in metrology area for sophisticated optical modules used across multiple Apple products line. Relying on your proven track record of bringing various optical systems to life, you will architect and optimize our system workflows from the ground up. You will use your deep understanding of SW and FW development along with custom algorithm design to turn complex optical alignments and processes into highly efficient, automated solutions

Description
In this role, you will play an important part in maturing early-stage optical concepts into robust , fully integrated instruments , designing with manufacturing constraint in mind. By combining strong algorithmic problem-solving with your deep programming expertise, you will own the technical maturation of our metrology systems. Ultimately, your work will culminate in delivering a production-ready system, ensuring a smooth handover to our deployment teams for scaling and integration at the factory.

Translate manufacturing constraints and test coverage requirements into scalable software architectures, driven by a thorough understanding of the target application.

Preferred Qualifications
Ph.D. in Optical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering

Proven experience designing, building, and deploying AI-driven automated workflows, utilizing Large Language Models (LLMs) and autonomous agents to solve complex engineering problems.
Hands-on experience developing custom 'Skills' and tool-calling capabilities for AI agents, enabling them to autonomously interact with APIs, databases, and internal software frameworks.
Self-motivated, independent, and takes initiative
Resourceful, prepared to champion work in front of a large group, and enjoys working in cross-functional teams.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's (M.S.) in Optical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering
5+ years of hands-on industry experience designing, building, and integrating complex optical systems from the ground up
Demonstrated experience working across a variety of optical systems, bringing them from concept to fully functional, automated setups.
Deep proficiency in C/C++ and Python for hardware control, data acquisition, and algorithm implementation
Experience with Optomechanics and precision motion control (e.g., motorized stages, hexapods, piezo actuators) for highly accurate alignment.
Strong ability to design and implement custom algorithms to solve complex alignment, calibration, or measurement problems

Pay & Benefits
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $181,100 and $318,400, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
