Description
The Camera Hardware Engineering group is responsible for all research, design, development, test and qualification of camera hardware for Apple products. Our target is to deliver superior camera hardware to enable best-in-class camera user experience. The team is looking for an Optical Engineer to work on the development of custom illumination and sensing components.","responsibilities":"Simulate, optimize and tolerance the performance of complex illumination systems involving coherent light sources, lenses, coatings, diffusers, and diffractive elements.
Characterize the optical behavior of materials and surfaces, and develop new optical models and tests as needed.
Work with mechanical and software engineering teams to integrate optical designs into compact form factors, build prototypes, and investigate hardware issues found during development.
Preferred Qualifications
Graduate degree with 5 years of industry experience.
Must be capable of and be responsible for generating documentation describing optical components, optical performance characteristics, and optical testing methodologies.
Experience with simulations involving coherent light propagation and polarization.
Experience with optical metrology techniques, in particular radiometric measurements and coherent source measurements, such as laser diodes.
Experience with the development of scripts to automate optical simulations and data analysis (such as Python, Matlab, VB or C++).
Familiarity with CAD software such as NX or SolidWorks.
Ability to interface with cross-functional teams to support integration of illumination components into systems and assess feasibility of new optical concepts.
Must be able to manage multiple projects and priorities, take initiative, and explore new ideas.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's in Optical Science, Optical Engineering, Physics, or relevant field of study with 2 years of relevant work experience.
Experience in modeling and analyzing illumination systems using optical simulation software such as LightTools, FRED, Zemax, or CODEV.
