Numbers Software Engineer, Visual Productivity

The Numbers team within Apple's Visual Productivity Apps group is looking for an engineer to help build the next generation of iWork, Freeform, and core visual productivity technologies. In this role, you will design and deliver features across tables, charts, and data canvases, crafting code that is as elegant and high-performing as the experiences it powers.
Description
As an engineer on the Numbers team, you will contribute to exciting and powerful features in tables, charts, and spreadsheets that are used across Apple apps like Freeform, Keynote, Numbers, and Pages. You'll work in a collaborative, cross-functional environment where engineering, human interface design, and QA partner closely from initial concept to launch.
In this role, you will:
Collaborate closely with engineers, Human Interface designers, and product partners to brainstorm, prototype, and ship innovative interactions and visual capabilities.

Design, optimize, and evolve the core calculation engine that powers Numbers, ensuring high throughput, thread safety, and instant responsiveness across massive datasets and complex formula dependency graphs.
Tackle complex engineering challenges across massive data sets, high-performance rendering, and multi-touch/spatial interaction models.
Navigate and evolve a large, mature codebase by diagnosing subtle issues, improving testability, and delivering robust architectural enhancements.
Prototype novel concepts rapidly and present compelling technical demos to cross-functional teams and leadership.
Keep the user experience at the center of every technical decision, sweating the details to deliver software that delights.
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with multi-platform development across Apple platforms (macOS, iOS, iPadOS, visionOS).
Experience handling large-scale data sets, spreadsheet calculation models, or data visualization engines.
Minimum Qualifications
At least 1 year of experience in Swift, Objective-C, and C++.
Experience integrating modern AI-assisted tools and assistants into daily workflows to accelerate prototyping, code comprehension, and debugging.
Solid foundation in computer science fundamentals, data structures, and software architecture.
Demonstrated experience developing, profiling, and shipping software in large-scale codebases.
Proven track record of rapid prototyping, iterating based on feedback, and presenting demos to diverse audiences.
Experience with performance profiling tools and optimization techniques for memory, responsiveness, and render pipelines.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills with an emphasis on cross-functional teamwork.
Deep empathy for user experience.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
