Apple is looking for Junior Model Maker candidates for the Industrial Design group's Model Shop. The Operator will produce machined parts, operate a computer numerical control (CNC) machine, have an understanding of technical drawings, maintain and improve quality and safety standards, keep and create records, and maintain equipment and supplies. Candidates should have a strong interest in and aptitude for the CNC process as well as a solid understanding of how a product is made.

Description

Operate and maintain CNC machines, ensuring efficient setup, cycle optimization, and high-quality part production. Design, model, and machine custom fixtures, tool trays, and shop organization components using CAD/CAM tools like Rhino and PowerMill. Support additive manufacturing by setting up and operating 3D printers and integrating 3D-printed components into shop workflows. Collaborate cross-functionally on projects including fixturing, prototyping, CAM programming, and user interface mockups for internal tools. Maintain and improve shop organization, including inventory management, tool database upkeep, and workspace cleanliness. Lead procurement efforts by sourcing materials, tools, and specialized equipment, including coordinating with vendors and tool reps. Support internal tool and database platforms through data entry, UI suggestions, training materials, and standardization efforts. Work with finishing teams to improve quality control processes, develop surface finish standards, and reduce post-processing time. Continuously build technical skills through training, mentorship, and experimentation with advanced machining techniques and equipment. Act as a team liaison by organizing task delegation, shop tours, project documentation, and collaborative initiatives like the fixture library.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Able to work in team environment
  • Initiative to complete tasks independently, from start to finish
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • A keen eye for detail
  • Organizational and time management skills
  • Self starter with ability to multi-task and prioritize workday/projects independently
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Basic PC and Mac knowledge

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience setting up and operating CNC machines
  • HEIDENHAIN CNC control programming skills is a plus
  • Good overall understanding of CNC programs including formatting and editing
  • Familiar with machine tools for drilling, milling and grinding

Pay & Benefits

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $107,800 and $162,600, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
