Materials Product Design - Materials Engineer

As a Materials Engineer, you will work with a world class team of material experts to help us develop and implement high-performance glass and ceramic materials and processes for a wide range of Apple products. Working closely with cross-functional teams and external vendors you will determine the best materials and processes to meet the stringent requirements in future products.
Description
Our team is seeking a Materials Engineer who demonstrates creativity in problem-solving, mastery of manipulating material properties and processes that enhance performance, and the ability to deliver material solutions with intricate specifications. The role entails close collaboration with cross-functional partners in Product Design, Manufacturing Design, and Reliability, as well as external vendors, to develop new materials and manufacturing techniques to meet Apple's stringent functional and aesthetic requirements. Technical proficiency, the capacity for cross-functional collaboration and project management, and exceptional communication skills are all essential for this position. This position will require occasional domestic or international travel (<10%).
Preferred Qualifications
3+ years experience in glass or ceramic industry
Technical knowledge of glass, glass-ceramics or structural ceramics
Familiarity with glass/ceramic material finishing technologies
Track record of material development for products with demanding performance requirements
Experience working on products with cross-functional groups (manufacturing, reliability, and others) to drive decisions that influence a product or roadmap direction.
Minimum Qualifications
BS/MS/PhD in Materials Science, Chemistry, or Physics
Strong fundamentals in materials structure-process-properties relationship
Experience with materials characterization and analysis methods (i.e. SEM, EDS, XRD, Raman, Spectrophotometers, etc)
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including utilization of statistical tools and techniques
Demonstrated ability to independently drive projects, and deliver products
Excellent communication, organizational and leadership skills. Experience in leading project teams and development projects
Pay & Benefits
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $129,300 and $194,700, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs.
