We're looking for an exceptional Software Engineering Manager to help shape the future of App Store. You will be responsible for building secure, end-to-end solutions while leading world-class engineers, that continue to innovate the platform, now home to over 1.8 million apps - each created using the team's own software development kit and related services. All those apps mean the store takes billions of requests from more than 500 million visitors every week, across iOS, macOS, tvOS, iPadOS, watchOS, and visionOS. To deliver such a rich experience at this scale, the engineers build high-performance systems backed by robust testing.

Description
The App Store Engineering R&D team is looking for a Software Engineering Manager to build and update the App Store platform. You will provide both strategic direction and hands-on technical leadership, partnering closely with engineering, product, design, QA, operations, and AI teams to define roadmaps, deliver impactful solutions, and continuously improve the App Store experience.
We are looking for a self- motivated, high-energy individual with excellent communication skills who is willing to question assumptions, take end-to-end ownership of features and drive them to completion. You should have experience developing large-scale server- side systems using object-oriented languages.
Responsibilities:
Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing software engineering team, fostering a culture of technical excellence, innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.
Collaborate with cross-functional partners to design, build, and deliver scalable, reliable, and secure solutions for the App Store.
Serve as a trusted technical leader by guiding architecture, design, implementation, and validation while influencing engineering decisions across organizations.
Drive platform evolution by improving reliability, scalability, maintainability, and performance while balancing technical debt, operational excellence, and build-versus-buy decisions.
Establish engineering best practices, including code reviews, testing strategies, CI/CD, operational readiness, observability, and quality standards that enable long-term success.
Ensure all engineering solutions comply with Apple's security, privacy, accessibility, and operational standards.
Identify opportunities to create shared platforms and organization-wide solutions that reduce duplication, increase efficiency, and enable teams to move faster.
Build and integrate AI-powered capabilities that automate workflows, enhance decision making, and unlock insights from complex engineering and operational data.
Preferred Qualifications
Passion and prior experience designing and implementing outstanding large distributed systems
Experience designing and deploying AI- and ML-powered solutions, including large language model (LLM) applications and intelligent automation.
Experience leading distributed or globally dispersed engineering teams.
Proven track record of driving engineering process improvements, operational excellence, and platform modernization.
Experience defining technical strategy, influencing architectural decisions, and delivering organization-wide engineering initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications
At least 5+ years of current industry experience in designing, implementing, and supporting highly scalable backend systems and web services
1+ years of experience in a leadership role managing software engineering teams.
In-depth Java programming experience, strong hands-on experience in multithreading, networking, HTTP and REST APIs
Confidence with SQL databases like Oracle and NoSQL databases like Cassandra
Understanding of data modeling, data and metadata management, and scalability challenges in distributed systems
Strong technical judgment across software architecture, cloud platforms, distributed systems, and modern web technologies, with the ability to evaluate trade-offs and guide teams through design, implementation, validation, and operational support.
Exceptional communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills, with a proven ability to build trusted partnerships, influence technical direction, and navigate complex organizational priorities.
Experience balancing competing priorities while creating scalable, lightweight processes that improve execution, transparency, and organizational alignment.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
Pay & Benefits
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $195,700 and $294,500, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple's Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
