The News team at Apple is looking for smart, creative scientists and algorithm design experts to build a new generation of features. Apple's News team is seeking a high-energy and self-driven Machine Learning Scientist who will play a key role in the delivery of scalable machine learning models. The team uses machine learning to tackle complicated problems in the News domain, including text and multi-media understanding, personalization, search and ranking. As a member of our dynamic group, you'll have the rare and rewarding opportunity to design algorithms for upcoming features that will delight and inform millions of Apple's customers every day.

We're looking for smart and creative scientists with a deep background in computer science, especially machine learning, deep learning, information retrieval, and scalable distributed computing.","responsibilities":"Design and implement both custom and state-of-the-art machine learning and deep learning models that process text, extract information, personalize feeds, and transform complex requirements into tangible solutions.

Curate high-quality training datasets, and architect deep learning models including defining custom architectures, fine-tuning large language models, and training adapters suitable for specific tasks

Own the full machine learning lifecycle: from ideation, experimentation and prototyping to deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement of models in production.

Partner with multi-functional teams at the intersection of technology and liberal arts to design and implement end-to-end machine learning enabled features.

Stay abreast with the latest advances in deep learning research in areas like multi-modal learning, large language models, generative AI and others, and proactively apply novel techniques to solve key challenges in the news domain.

Preferred Qualifications

Ph.D. in Machine Learning, Computer Science, or related field.

5-7 years of experience training and shipping NLP and computer vision focused machine learning models in products.

Proven experience taking LLM-based and Agentic AI systems from prototype to production including orchestration, automatic evals and reliability considerations a plus.

Experience with personalized ranking and scoring is a plus.

Experience with vision tasks is a plus.

Experience delivering high quality software at scale.

Experience designing user-facing machine learning features with interdisciplinary partners.

Minimum Qualifications

MS in Machine Learning, Computer Science or related field.

Extensive knowledge in theory and practice of machine learning and deep learning techniques.

At least 3 years of experience training and deploying machine learning models.

Strong programming skills in Python, Java, or a related language, and one of the deep learning toolkits such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or similar.

Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with partner teams.

Pay & Benefits

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $181,100 and $318,400, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple's Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
