Instrument Systems Design Engineer

We are looking for an engineer to design, develop and deploy calibration and test instrumentation systems for Apple's world class products. This engineer will work closely with cross-functional groups (Design, ME, EE, SW, Ops, etc.) throughout the New Product Introduction (NPI) phase to ensure the success of current and future Apple products.

You will be responsible for the design specification, bring up, validation and deployment of automated instrumentation to calibrate and test Apple's products through NPI and mass production. Work with our mechanical engineering team to specify and validate the required mechanical fixtures & automation systems.
Develop, debug, and optimize automation software.
Implement advanced signal processing and ML algorithms to evaluate performance of systems.
Analyze large amounts of data generated from your instrument systems and adopt data-driven approaches to solving engineering challenges.
Perform failure mode root cause analysis and resolution, debugging from the system level down to the component level.
Work closely with Apple Acoustics/N&V, system EE, product design, firmware, operations, and logistics teams.
Frequent interactions with contract manufacturers/vendors; developing SOPs, debug instructions, and documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
Masters in Science/Electrical/Computer Engineering or related discipline.
Working knowledge of consumer electronics modules like sensors (light/force/pressure/touch/motion) and/or acoustics (speaker/microphone).
Experience with digital signal processing (DSP).
Understanding of test principles, GRR, experience with test automation and optimization.
Experience in high volume consumer electronics manufacturing.
Experience analyzing, processing, plotting, and mining large data sets.

Strong analytical/problem solving skills and ability to manage many priorities across multiple disciplines.
Experience or deep understanding of AI/ML modeling.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Domestic and international travel may be required (up to 10%).
Minimum Qualifications
BS in Science/Electrical/Computer Engineering or related discipline + 5 years professional experience
3+ years professional experience (or equivalent) in design, development, debug, validation and working with electro-mechanical systems
Basic understanding of hardware concepts and EE fundamentals (i.e. HW architecture, Control System, Signal processing etc.)
Programming skills in one or more of the following: C/C++/Objective-C, Python, Lua

Pay & Benefits
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $141,800 and $258,600, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
