Head of Engineering Operations, Wallet, Payments & Commerce
The Wallet, Payments & Commerce organization is seeking a technically strong, collaborative, and resilient Senior Engineering Manager to help us create the next generation of digital payment, access and identity experiences. Our team is responsible for the critical backend infrastructure that powers Apple Pay, Wallet, and other commerce, transit, access and identity experiences, enabling millions of customers to seamlessly and securely interact with the world around them.
You will partner closely with leaders across product management, business development, iOS engineering, and quality assurance to define requirements and deliver on our shared vision. In this role, you will represent our organization in cross-functional forums, champion innovation by empowering your team, internal and external developers to apply AI/ML to our biggest challenges, and ultimately ensure our infrastructure can scale to meet the ever-growing demands of our users worldwide.

Description
As the Senior Manager for Engineering Operations, you will lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of software and operations engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and innovation. You will be responsible for the strategy and execution of the backend services that form the backbone of the Wallet and Payments ecosystem.","responsibilities":"A key part of your mission will be to advance our services modernization, improving reliability, observability, developer velocity, and operational excellence through a sustained DevOps transformation.
Manage the economic model of the engineering organization, including cloud budget optimization, capacity planning, and vendor strategy.
Drive the adoption of AI/ML agents to automate toil, enhance root cause analysis, and streamline internal developer support.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in Payments, Banking, or Transactional Processing infrastructure.
Developing and leading teams toward a long term vision and executing on team and organization-wide strategy.
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical strategy and roadmaps to engineering teams and executive leadership.
Passion to coach and mentor individual contributors and managers.
Experience managing employees, contractors and distributed teams across multiple time zones and geographies.
Minimum Qualifications
A minimum of 10 years of experience in a technical leadership role, with specific experience leading large-scale Infrastructure, SRE, or Platform Engineering organizations.
Deep experience operating in highly regulated environments (Fintech, Banking, Healthcare, or Public Sector) where security, privacy, and compliance and audit-readiness are non-negotiable.
Strong understanding of distributed systems architecture, cloud-native patterns, and the economics of cloud computing.
Exceptional ability to influence without authority, specifically in aligning diverse engineering teams around unified technical standards and operational metrics.
Experience applying GenAI and ML concepts to improve internal tooling, developer workflows, automation frameworks or service optimization.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Pay & Benefits
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $262,500 and $393,800, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
