CoreOS Kernel Engineer

Today Cupertino, CA

Apple is where individual imaginations gather together, committing to the values that lead to great work. Every new product we build, service we create, or Apple Store experience we deliver is the result of us making each other's ideas stronger. That happens because every one of us shares a belief that we can make something wonderful and share it with the world, changing lives for the better. It's the diversity of our people and their thinking that inspires the innovation that runs through everything we do. When we bring everybody in, we can do the best work of our lives. Here, you'll do more than join something - you'll add something.

The Darwin Scheduler team within Apple's CoreOS organization is responsible for delivery of a high-quality and performant kernel into just about every one of Apple's products. Our software runs on your wrist as part of watchOS; in your pocket with iOS; on your desk in macOS; in your living room with tvOS; on the devices owned by your friends and family; and hundreds of millions of devices beyond those. The team focuses on key kernel technology areas such as CPU scheduling, power management and threading models which are key to delivering great performance and battery life across all Apple devices. This position requires a solid understanding of operating systems fundamentals, including kernel design and implementation. We deal in all of the traditional kernel subsystems, e.g. virtual memory, scheduling, IPC, etc, and also serve as expert system architects up and down the entire Apple stack. Our company is one of the last vertically integrated systems shops remaining, and as such our engineers have the unique opportunity to roam the system freely, from iOS silicon design all the way up to Apps and the cloud.
