Camera & Photos - Hardware Allocations Engineer

The Camera & Photos Infrastructure team is seeking a results driven and meticulously organized allocation engineer. We manage all Apple devices that the Camera & Photos organization uses for quality assurance and development of iOS and macOS applications.

This position will provide the opportunity to work with the latest Apple hardware and software. As a Hardware Allocation Engineer, you will oversee the entire device lifecycle from requests to distribution to recall.

Description

This role will be responsible for forecasting resource needs, analyzing capacity constraints, and developing comprehensive plans to optimize our device utilization. Using a blend of analytical rigor, strong communication skills, and a proactive approach to problem-solving, the Hardware Allocation Engineer will collaborate closely with project managers, functional leads, and engineering teams to drive efficient and effective hardware delivery.

","responsibilities":"Resource Forecasting: Develop and maintain robust forecasting models to predict future resource requirements based on project pipelines, timelines, and scope.

Capacity Analysis: Conduct in-depth analysis of current resource capacity, identifying potential gaps, bottlenecks, and opportunities for optimization across various teams and skill sets.

Project Planning: Partner with project managers, leadership, and engineering to translate project plans into detailed resource demands, ensuring alignment with project goals, skillsets and resource budget constraints.

Scenario Modeling: Partner with project managers to create and evaluate various capacity scenarios, assessing the impact of different project loads and resource allocation strategies.

Reporting & Communication: Prepare and present clear, concise reports on device utilization, resource availability, and potential risks to key stakeholders. Communicate findings and recommendations effectively to drive informed decision-making.

Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate and improve capacity planning processes, and methodologies to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills to work with engineering teams, product managers, leadership, and vendors

Risk Management: Identify and mitigate potential capacity-related risks that could impact project timelines and deliverables.

Tool Utilization: Leverage current planning software and data analytics tools to support forecasting, analysis, and reporting activities.

Preferred Qualifications

Deep understanding of Apple's device ecosystem (iOS, iPadOS, hardware specifications)

Strong communication, organizational skills, and attention to detail

Self-starter with ability to juggle conflicting priorities

Ability to problem-solve and think clearly and quickly to resolve potential issues

Ability and willingness to collaborate with cross-functional teams

Positive attitude, willingness to offer help, and engage with a large extended team both in person and virtually

Minimum Qualifications

College degree or equivalent experience

Experience with asset management systems and inventory tracking

Familiarity with hardware lifecycle management, including procurement, lead times, maintenance, and retirement

Project or program management experience

Prior experience in a lab environment

Ability to lift up 30 lbs without assistance

Pay & Benefits

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $121,306 and $213,700 annualized, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple's Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
