Manager, Application Engineering

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead and develop our growing Business Technology team in Chennai, India. In this role, you will be a dedicated people leader, responsible for mentoring a multi-disciplinary team of developers, quality engineers, and production support engineers. Your primary focus will be on growing our local talent and fostering a strong engineering culture, ensuring your team thrives while building the AI-powered Appian applications that run our global business.
What you'll do
- Lead & Mentor: Directly manage and support a diverse team, driving their career development through coaching, feedback, and performance management.
- Foster Culture: Serve as the local leader for the team, building a positive, collaborative, and high-performing engineering culture in the Chennai office.
- Drive Execution: Oversee the team's day-to-day operations, remove impediments, and ensure they deliver high-quality work in partnership with global product and engineering leaders.
- Grow the Team: Partner with recruiting to attract, hire, and onboard top engineering talent in India.
- Serve as HR Manager: Act as the primary management and HR point of contact for your team members, guiding them in their professional journey at Appian.
What we're looking for
- B.S. in Computer Science or a related technical field.
- 5+ years of experience in the software industry, with 2+ years in a direct people management role.
- Proven experience leading and mentoring diverse technical teams (e.g., development, QA, and/or application support).
- Strong understanding of Agile methodologies and the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills with a passion for developing people.
- A solid technical foundation; experience with low-code/BPM platforms, APIs, and relational databases is a plus.
