Applications Engineering, Sr Engineer

Today• Seoul, South Korea

We Are

Synopsys is the leader in engineering solutions from silicon to systems, enabling customers to rapidly innovate AI-powered products. We deliver industry-leading silicon design, IP, simulation and analysis solutions, and design services. We partner closely with our customers across a wide range of industries to maximize their R&D capability and productivity, powering innovation today that ignites the ingenuity of tomorrow.

You Are

You have spent your career at the intersection of optics, automotive systems, and simulation, and understand that lighting or HUD or camera is only as good as the simulation that validated it, and you have built the intuition to spot where a design will break before it ever reaches a test track.
You are comfortable walking into a room with automotive OEM engineers or Tier-1 suppliers and translating complex optical phenomena into workflows they can act on today. You do not wait for perfect datasets or fully defined requirements. Instead, you ask the right questions, build proof of concepts quickly, and show value through working examples, not slide decks.
You are curious about how AI and automation can make engineering faster and better. You have probably already experimented with Python scripts to automate repetitive simulation tasks or explored how generative AI might accelerate design exploration. You think in systems, not just components, and you care about the outcome, not just the output.
At Synopsys, you will work directly with the teams building the next generation of automotive sensing and lighting systems, and what you demonstrate and enable will directly shape how those products get designed.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Support automotive OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers in Korea with pre-sales and post-sales technical engagements focused on optical simulation for exterior lighting, interior lighting, camera systems, HUD, LiDAR, and ADAS applications
  • Build proof of concept demonstrations that show how simulation reduces development cycles, improves design quality, and accelerates time to market for automotive optical systems
  • Develop and demonstrate AI-assisted workflows that integrate simulation tools like Zemax or Speos with Python automation, data analytics, and emerging AI technologies to enhance engineering productivity
  • Lead technical trainings, workshops, and customer seminars on automotive optical simulation methodologies, sensor performance evaluation, virtual prototyping, and system-level validation
  • Create technical documentation, application notes, best-practice guidelines, and localized marketing materials including webinars, blogs, and release communications tailored to automotive optical use cases
  • Collaborate on the development of new simulation methodologies and contribute to technical papers, conference presentations, and industry publications
  • Explore and prototype how generative AI tools and agentic AI can improve design exploration, decision-making workflows, and simulation efficiency in automotive contexts

The Impact You Will Have
  • Enable automotive customers to validate optical system designs virtually, reducing physical prototyping cycles and accelerating product launches
  • Demonstrate measurable ROI through simulation-driven workflows that improve design quality and reduce development costs for leading OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers
  • Establish Synopsys optical simulation tools as the standard for automotive sensing and lighting development in the Korean automotive market
  • Accelerate adoption of AI-driven engineering workflows that improve productivity and unlock new design possibilities for automotive optical systems
  • Build reusable technical assets, workflows, and best practices that scale across multiple customer engagements and product lines
  • Influence product roadmap and methodology development by bringing real-world customer needs and emerging automotive trends back to engineering teams
  • Strengthen customer relationships through high-value technical engagement that goes beyond tool support to strategic partnership

What You'll Need
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Optics, Photonics, or a related engineering discipline
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant industrial experience in automotive optical system development including cameras, LiDAR, HUD, HMI displays, interior monitoring systems, or automotive lighting
  • Hands-on experience with optical simulation and design tools such as Zemax, Speos, or equivalent platforms, with strong fundamentals in optics and photonics
  • Working proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, MATLAB, or C++ for automation and workflow development
  • Working level English communication skills for technical documentation, customer engagement, and collaboration with global teams
  • Experience applying AI/ML techniques to engineering, simulation, or product development workflows is a plus
  • Ansys Lumerical, Ansys Mechanical, Code V, RSoft, or Light-tools is a plus

Who You Are
  • You can walk into a technical meeting with an automotive engineer, understand their design challenge in real time, and sketch out a simulation approach that addresses it before the meeting ends
  • You are comfortable working across languages and cultures, translating technical concepts for Korean-speaking customers while collaborating with global engineering teams
  • You learn new tools and technologies quickly, whether that means picking up a new optical simulation platform or experimenting with a generative AI API to automate documentation
  • You do not need a perfect script to deliver a workshop or demo, you adapt in the moment based on what the audience cares about and what questions they are actually asking
  • You think like a product person, not just an engineer, you care about adoption, usability, and whether the workflow you built actually gets used six months later
  • You are organized enough to manage multiple customer engagements, proof of concepts, and deliverables without dropping threads or losing track of commitments
