Lead Engineer

Today Boston, MA

We are looking for an experienced and passionate Lead Engineer to join our API Management and DevSecOps engineering team. In this critical role, you will accelerate our software delivery performance by establishing and promoting "paved path" Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) patterns. You will empower development teams to build, test, and deploy applications faster, more reliably, and with greater consistency, driving benefits and new ideas. You will report to the Senior Manager or Engineering.

Position Compensation Range:
$128,000.00 - $216,000.00

Compensation may vary based on the job level and your geographic work location. Relocation support is offered for eligible candidates.

Primary Accountabilities:

  • Define and Promote Paved Paths: Design, implement, and document standardized, proscriptive IaC templates (e.g., Terraform modules, CloudFormation stacks) and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitLab CI/CD components) that serve as "paved paths" for development teams.
  • IaC and Automation Leadership: Lead the development of scalable, and secure IaC solutions for cloud environments (AWS, GCP). Create automation across the entire software development lifecycle.
  • CI/CD Pipeline Development & Optimization: Architect, improve end-to-end CI/CD pipelines that incorporate best practices for automated testing, code quality, security scanning, and deployment strategies (e.g., blue/green, canary).
  • Mentorship and Enablement: Provide technical guidance, and mentorship to development teams on DevOps principles, IaC best practices, and CI/CD pipeline usage. Conduct workshops and create comprehensive documentation.
  • Collaboration: Work with Enterprise Cloud and DevOps teams to ensure Enterprise patterns and platforms meet the needs of Digital Platforms teams.
  • Consultation: Work with Digital Platforms software engineers, architects, and product managers to understand their needs, identify pain points, and provide pragmatic solutions to accelerate their delivery.
  • Security and Compliance Integration: Embed security best practices and compliance requirements into IaC and CI/CD patterns from the outset (DevSecOps).
  • Troubleshoot and Support: Act as an escalation point for complex issues related to infrastructure, deployments, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Stay Current: research new technologies, methodologies, and industry trends to ensure our DevOps practices remain the latest
  • Demonstrate management skill in understanding project goals, individual role operations, the delivery process, problem identification, escalation and personal discipline in goal setting and achieving results.

• Demonstrated understanding of application development methodologies (e.g. Agile) and product-based teams.

• Demonstrated understanding of main Cloud services (EC2, S3, Cloud Watch, Containers).

• Demonstrated experience with System Administration (configuration, installations, patch management, server maintenance) and Network Management (firewalls, proxies, IP management, routing, DNS).

• Demonstrated knowledge of multiple IT subject areas (e.g. development, testing, configuration, deployment, monitoring).

• Demonstrated experience building automation for cloud environments using tools such as Cloudformation, Terraform & Ansible.

• Demonstrated experience in the following: Java, Python, Linux, Shell, Bash or other programming languages.

• Demonstrated experience with continuous integration tools such as Jenkins, BitBucket, Gitlab,

• Demonstrated experience establishing integration and communication protocols between applications, databases, and technology platforms.

Technical Skills & Specialized Knowledge
  • 8+ years of experience in DevOps, SRE, or a related field, with at least 2-3 years in a lead or senior capacity.
  • Expertise in at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or GCP) with a understanding of important services (compute, networking, storage, databases, and serverless). Certifications.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform (preferred) or CloudFormation.
  • Experience in designing complex CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash, TypeScript) for automation and tool development.
  • Experience with containerization technologies (Docker) and orchestration platforms (Kubernetes).
  • Experience with version control systems (Git) and GitOps principles.
  • Experience with API management platforms(eg. Apigee)
  • Experience managing and logging tools (e.g., Datadog).
  • Familiarity with multiple testing methodologies and their integration into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience

Technical Skills & Specialized Knowledge
  • Experience with secret management tools (e.g., AWS Secrets Manager, GCP Secret Manager, 1Password).
  • Knowledge of service mesh technologies (e.g., Istio, Linkerd).
  • Experience with chaos engineering principles and tools.
In this flex office/home role, you will work 10 days per month from one of the following office locations: Madison, WI 53783; Boston, MA 02110
