Job Description

We have a great opportunity to join our team at the Newport News Shipyard! The selected candidate will be responsible for semi- skilled and unskilled laboring duties realated to installation, maintenance, and repair for a wide variety of systems and equiptment.

What You Will Do

  • Under direction, performs routine work technical trades duties to include support of technical repairs and installations.
  • Work from blueprints and tech manuals.
  • Work assigned is typical of standard work assignments common to specialty trades.
  • Applies job skills and company policies to complete a wide range of tasks that vary based on job, contract, customer requirements, specifications, etc.
  • Performs semi-skilled and unskilled laboring duties related to the installation, maintenance and repair of a wide variety of systems and equipment.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 1 year of related experience. Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.
  • Must have mechanical knowledge to complete required tasking with limited supervision.
  • Ability to identify system and component location based on ships structure preferred
  • Must be able to apply skills of specialty trades functions and tools.
  • Performs semi-skilled and unskilled laboring duties related to the installation, maintenance and repair of a wide variety of systems and equipment.
  • Ability to read and interoperate blue prints preferred.
  • Assists workers in the skilled maintenance trades.
  • Must be able to perform basic tasks by applying knowledge and use of basic hand tools and portable power tools.
  • Must be able to follow instructions/ procedures
  • Performs maintenance and minor repairs to various machines under supervision.
  • Check and return tools from tool room. Assists in receipt and inventory of material, tools and equipment.

Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator. Most work is performed aboard ships or in industrial conditions. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
