Position Summary:

Alion is seeking a highly skilled, knowledgeable, and motivated Technical Writer to

support our Department of Defense customers. The applicant will be a part of a team that

designs and develops interactive courseware for customer. Position is based in Alexandria, VA.

The applicant will require strong analytical skills and must be a self-starter with great initiative

and ability to work independently with minimum supervision. Work requires the writer to be a

team-player who interacts daily with ISDs, SMEs, and web developers to deliver quality products.

scope of the work derived from a contract with a government customer.

Duties: The Technical Writer will perform a wide range of tasks to support the development of

software and security training solutions, including:
  • Determine the clearest and most logical way to present information for greatest reader comprehension.
  • Write and revise training materials including job aids, configuration instructions, ILT/vILT documents, and online course documents.
  • Meet with subject-matter experts to ensure specialized topics are appropriately addressed.
  • Manage multiple projects at any one time.
  • Execute existing styles, policies, and procedures.
  • Review and/or copyedit content developed by other members of the team.
  • Performing additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
  • BA/BS in Technical Communication, Technical Writing, English, or related discipline with at least two years of professional experience.
  • Excellent writing and proof-reading skills.
  • Experience creating technical documentation for a wide and diverse audience.
  • Superior project management and organizational skills.
  • Must be US citizen.


Preferred Skills:
  • Familiarity with agile software development processes.
  • Familiarity with ADDIE process.
  • Experience working with government customers.

  • Excellent verbal, oral, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to be flexible, prioritize, and manage multiple activities simultaneously in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Strong team player with the ability to both collaborate and to take initiative and works well independently.
  • Superior attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines.
