HII Unmanned Systems are seeking a Systems Engineering Manager. As the Systems Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for a team of system engineers, system security engineers, and integration and test engineers managing the full life cycle of autonomous maritime products for defense, marine research, and commercial applications. With HII serving unmanned system customers in more than 30 countries, and now architecting an approach to multi-domain unmanned system solutions through the merger of multiple autonomy companies, the systems engineering team is at the core of the unmanned system design, manufacturing, testing, operations, and sustainment.   • Oversees the development and refinement of a digital systems engineering process
  • Develop a team of highly motivated, independent, and talented individuals to execute product lines for customer programs
  • Coordinate resource and skillset allocation across customer programs
  • Initiate processes that allow the team to collaborate with local as well as global teams with a high degree of efficiency
  • As a senior systems engineer, work with customers (internal and external) to define product life-cycle needs, and evolve needs into system requirements using industry and Government standards
  • Assist the system engineering team to perform requirements allocation, interface definition, product requirement management, in the context of technical, schedule, and cost constraints on projects
  • Assist the system engineering team to perform technical analyses throughout a product lifecycle to support concept development, design, fabrication, testing, installation, operation, and maintenance
  • Keeping abreast of new systems engineering processes and tools, as well as conforming to best practices in system security engineering
  • Participate in trade studies regarding future system design elements and architecture, to optimize product life cycle and sustainment


Essential Job Responsibilities

Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent plus 7 years relevant experience; OR Master's degree plus 6 years relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience conducting System Engineering functions, including requirements management and system architecture design, integration, verification, and/or validation
  • The ideal candidate is an individual that can work in a fast-paced environment; with a high attention to detail, excellent problem solving skills, ability to multi-task and enthusiastic attitude.
  • Experience managing a geographically dispersed team
  • Experience with Defense acquisition policies, including DoD 5000 and related system engineering guidance
  • Experience with configuration management in a DoD environment
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
  • Experience with Requirements Management software (JAMA, DOORS, etc)
  • Experience with Atlassian tool suite (e.g., JIRA/Confluence).
  • Must have secret clearance #LI-MH1


Preferred Requirements

  • Master's degree in Systems Engineering or related multi-disciplinary field preferred (Aerospace, Ocean Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science)


Physical Requirements

Job performance may require working in an industrial or shipboard environment. Normally not required to lift more than 40 pounds higher than three feet above feet/floor level.
