Summary

HII - Technical Solutions Division is currently seeking a Systems Engineer to work out of their clients Merrifield, VA office in support of package sorter development and deployment programs for the USPS.

This person will support the US Postal Service in its Package Sorting Technology organization. The Package Sorting Technology group manages a variety of applications with Analysts, Engineers, Developers, Testers, and others, in support of its mission in a nationwide scale.

This position performs enterprise-level Systems Engineer functions, computer networking functions, computer hardware functions, interfaces with senior USPS and vendor technical personnel. This individual will be expected to work independently or semi-independently with a minimum of guidance or direction.

What you will do

  • Provides minimally supervised support for difficult analysis and evaluation assignments.
  • Performs analysis, troubleshooting, debugging, and evaluation of existing or proposed processes, applications, systems, hardware, or software.
  • Performs, and/or may direct, project planning, scope, control, management, tracking, or review.
  • Performs planning, requirements, troubleshooting, remote technical support, on-site technical support, integration, installation/deployment, and testing.
  • Performs, or may direct, hardware replacements at field postal facilities, either remotely or on-site.
  • Performs, or may direct, software replacements, upgrades, and testing, either remotely or on-site.
  • Performs, or may direct, hardware or software testing at field postal facilities, either remotely or on-site.
  • Consults with users and business customers to identify current operating procedures and to clarify program objectives.
  • May be expected to write documentation to describe program development, logic, coding, and corrections. Or writes manual for users to describe installation and operating procedures.
  • Candidate will provide advice to software developers and engineers on effective system testing techniques and test case scenarios.


What you must have

  • Bachelors Degee and a minimum of 5 years of professional service
  • Ability to support and provide difficult analysis of software development efforts
  • Ability to write technical documentation that provide instruction for field users that would describe installation or operating procedures
  • Ability to serve as the liason between the functional and technical teams
  • Ability to conduct working sessions with exisiting user base to determine operating procedures and or requirements
  • Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information
  • Travel is required to support field sites for USPS and/or vendor sites
  • Must be able to obtain and keep a USPS Sensitive Clearance
  • A new Federal Executive Order requires that employees of Federal contractors be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 by December 8, 2021. Accordingly, as a condition of employment with Technical Solutions, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, employees will be required to provide proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 or have an approved exemption prior to starting employment.


Bonus points for

  • Bachelor's Degree in Systems Analysis, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or associated engineering discipline preferred
  • Experienced with installing equipment, field modifications, troubleshooting networks and data communications and hands-on testing of software
  • Familiarity with USPS operations concepts, practices and procedures is a plus
  • Experienced with installing equipment, field modifications, troubleshooting networks and data communications, and hands-on testing.
