HII - Technical Solutions Division is currently seeking a Systems Administrator to work out of their Fair Lakes, VA office.

The system administrator will manage a 24x7 AWS Cloud environment maintained for a program at the Department of Education. The administrator will have oversight over both the systems and networks comprising of AWS Windows and Linux virtual servers, production applications & their associated development environments. Responsibilities will include configuration, operations, and documentation; troubleshooting and repair; responding to service requests; monitoring; reporting; and responding to incidents.

  • Provide primary support in incident, crisis and change management.
  • Provide support to the 24x7 help desk in resolving tier 1-3 issues.
  • Develop and maintain system and network engineering plans, schematics, and diagrams.
  • Perform scheduled and ad hoc backups with AWS native backup tools including VMs, SQL Server databases, and SharePoint servers, and implementing retention plans.
  • Run and report on monthly vulnerability scan on all servers.
  • Recommend and implement software for monitoring Windows logs on all servers.
  • Configure and monitor service interruption detection and respond to outages.
  • Monitor systems for adequate disk space.
  • Monitor SQL Server transaction logs for excessive growth.
  • Plan and maintain configuration documentation


Minimum Qualifications
  • 6 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field
  • Eight (8) years of experience in network administration, including at least five with Windows networks.
  • Experience in most of the following areas:
    • AWS Cloud Computing
    • AWS Network architecture
    • AWS EC2, S3, Route53, Load Balancing, Direct Connect, Systems Manager
    • Windows networking
    • Windows Server 2012/2016/2019
    • Linux distributions
    • Routers and firewalls (Palo Alto)
    • Microsoft PowerShell
    • Bash scripting
    • IPv4 & IPv6 architecture and configuration
    • DNS
    • Virtual machine-based architecture (Hyper-V)
    • Load balancing
    • RAID technology
    • Microsoft Internet Information Services
    • Hosting Microsoft SQL Server (including data mirroring and backup and recovery considerations)
    • Hosting Microsoft SharePoint (including backup and recovery considerations)
    • Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
    • Network diagramming in Visio
  • Be available for monthly off-hours planned service windows, as well as other off-hours maintenance work when required.
  • Clearance: Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance

Preferred Requirements
  • Experience with SharePoint 2013/2016/2019
  • Previous experience with cloud architecture
  • Familiarity with the Federal Certification and Accreditation (C&A) process.
  • Experience with FISMA, low and moderate.
