HII Unmanned Systems are seeking a versatile Senior Software Manager. As the Software Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for a world-class team of software engineers to deploy advanced autonomous maritime solutions for defense, marine research, and commercial applications. With HII serving unmanned system customers in more than 30 countries, the software engineering team is at the core of the solution space for unmanned platform design, autonomy engine deployment, user interface, platform manufacturing and testing, and operations and sustainment of unmanned systems and their auxiliary equipment. As the Software Engineering Manager, you will drive and execute on this vision.

Essential Job Responsibilities

As the Software Engineering Manager, you will have the following responsibilities:
  • Develop a team of highly motivated, independent, and talented individuals to execute product lines for customer programs
  • Coordinate with the Software Product Development Team to transition new software solutions into product lines
  • Coordinate resource and skillset allocation across customer programs
  • Integrating processes for software system requirements and software design documentation into the software product development process, and developing software assessment metrics
  • Managing the development, deployment, and integration of software solutions through your team
  • Managing the installation and configuration of software solutions on products, including the development of software manufacturing processes
  • Resolving software deployment and integration errors
  • Performing routine maintenance and monitoring performance metrics
  • Keeping abreast of new software technologies, as well as conforming to best practices in system security engineering
  • Participate in trade studies regarding future software design elements and architecture, to optimize product life cycle and sustainment
  • Collaborate with front end users on software functionality
  • Initiate processes that allow the team to collaborate with local as well as global teams with a high degree of efficiency


Minimum Qualifications
  • 8 years relevant progressive experience with Bachelors in related field; 6 years relevant progressive experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 12 years relevant progressive experience.
  • Must have a secret clearance
  • This position requires business travel. HII policy requires that all employees must be complete with their covid vaccination to engage in business travel.

Preferred Requirements
  • In-depth knowledge of programming languages such as C++, Java, and Python.
  • In-depth knowledge of operating systems such as Windows and Linux.
  • Experience with Atlassian tools
  • Extensive experience in Agile Method
  • Ability to mentor junior software developers, as well as to collaborate with all stakeholders.
  • Extensive experience in developing, deploying, and integrating software solutions.
  • Proficiency in documenting processes and monitoring performance metrics.
  • Knowledge of best practices related to data encryption and cybersecurity.
  • Familiarity with CMMI
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Eligible for SECRET clearance


Physical Requirements

May be required to visit job site in an industrial or shipboard environment. Normally not required to lift more than 40 pounds higher than three feet above feet/floor level.
