Job Description

Position Summary:

This contract position provides support to the US Army Ground Vehicle Systems Center (GVSC) Safety Office. GVSC is the premier Research & Development organization for US military ground vehicles and has numerous laboratories and therefore a large variety of potential safety hazards.

Job Duties:

  • The ideal candidate will have Safety Engineer experience in an industrial environment that includes things such as failure mode analysis from fatigue, stability, and stress, designing protective equipment or safety devices, redesigning machines and equipment to eliminate hazards, designing test protocols from a safety perspective, and reviewing / drafting safety policies.
  • Because this position also serves as a point of contact on safety matters within GVSC and between GVSC and the Vehicle Program Managers and other entities, the candidate must have experience managing conflicts between stakeholders and the customer on interpretations of safety requirements, knowledge of effective management techniques, and the ability to interact with and clearly communicate ideas to target audiences in both written and oral manners.
  • On a space available basis, the candidate will attend Defense Acquisition University and achieve Acquisition Level 1 Certification. This will give the candidate the basis of understanding of the acquisition lifecycle.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in engineering is required, plus 2 to 5 years experience or Masters degree plus 0 to 2 years experience.
  • The candidate must be comfortable and conversant about technologies that fall outside of the narrow scope of a single major, for example, a Mechanical Engineer will be expected to understand basic aspects of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, and Material Science.
  • The candidate must be able to obtain and hold a SECRET clearance.
