Summary

Join HII as we keep the world's more powerful Navy afloat! Seeking Senior Naval Architect to join HII-Technical Solutions Fleet Support Group. This positon will be located in Port Hueneme, CA.

This position will be a senior position in the organization responsible for design for fleet introduction of combat aboard naval vessels. The position reports to the Program Manager and works extensively with the senior engineering team (e.g., Senior Systems Engineer, Senior Engineer, Field Engineer, Mechanical). This is a key position that is critical to the success of the program.

Other duties include:
• Oversee construction of designed combat systems.
• Maintain and develop knowledge of naval standards and marine architecture methodologies.

• Collaborate with stakeholders and translate performance desires into design specifications.
• Create prototypes and review performance metrics, ensuring standards are met with all interior, exterior, and structural details.

What you will do

• Performs routine naval architecture work requiring application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out a sequence of design and/or analyses of ship hull, foundation, superstructure, arrangements and hull form characteristics tasks.
• As directed, applies selected techniques and procedures to assignments involving ship design and ship performance analyses.
• Assists in the solution of difficult problems involved in areas of assignment.
• Uses prescribed methods to perform specific and limited portions of broader systems design, performance analyse, or hull form characteristic assignments of more experienced naval architects.
• The duties described herein cover major duties as required. However, this does not exclude the requirement of performing related duties under normal conditions, and other duties directed by supervision.

Minimum Qualifications

  • ​​​​​9 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 7 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; or 4 years relevant experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Naval Architecture
  • MS Office Suite to include virtual meeting tools
  • Minimum of six (6) years' experience within the last 9 years with Navy Surface Ship Weapon/Combat Systems Design Services Allocation (DSA) and material requirements.
  • Minimum of (2) two years' experience in weight and movement stability studies, shock and structural
  • Must have secret security clearance
  • A new Federal Executive Order requires that employees of Federal contractors be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 by December 8, 2021. Physical Requirements
May require working in an office, industrial or shipboard environment. Able to climb ladders and tolerate confined spaces and extreme temperature variances. May require the lifting and moving of materials not to exceed the guidelines set for one man lift. Office environment normally encountered, with industrial/shipboard exposure to be expected on occasion.
