Summary
HII has been helping the U.S. military safety deliver the military materiel they need, across the globe, for decades. The selected candidate will be supporting the facilities team base at our Fabrication shop and Warehouse in Chesapeake, VA. Responsibilities include prepping specific vehicles at the warehouse facility to perform daily runs to local bases, shipyards, clients, vendors, and facilities for pickups and deliveries to/from/for our teams working various tasks located around Hampton Roads (Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Newport News, Hampton, Virginia Beach, Suffolk - occasional Yorktown). What you will do
- Performs a combination of manual and clerical shipping and/or receiving duties which may require the use of hand trucks, forklifts, and other devices, as well as computers to maintain data.
- Receives incoming materials or prepares materials for shipment.
- Verifies quantity, weight, and conformance of materials; prepares records of materials shipped and bills of lading; routes materials to destinations.
- May lay out, fabricate, and assemble nonstandard shipping crates and boxes, and prepare parts and tooling for special shipment.
What you must have
- Must have High School Diploma/equivalent and 4 years additional education and/or related experience.
- Must have a minimum of 6 months professional experience driving a medium Gross Vehicle Mass Rating (GVMR) vehicle (between 10,000 – 26,000 pounds) and/or higher.
- Must have professional experience driving a forklift.
- Must have ability to prioritize pick up and deliveries to save time and costs.
- Must have ability to obtain/maintain access to a DBIDS card
- Must have ability to obtain/maintain access to several bases and shipyards in the VA area.
- Must have ability to access CIA areas with ability to obtain/maintain a NAVSEA badge
Preferred: Bonus points for...
- Familiarity with Hampton Roads area preferred.
- Candidates with current or past forklift certification a plus.
- CDL a plus
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift forty pounds, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes and work in high heat/cold environments, aboard ships, under industrial conditions, in confined spaces, at heights, and in extreme weather. Ability to operate portable power tools. Work may involve climbing and working on ladders.
