Summary

When a U.S. Navy ship needs repairs, they call us! HII is currently seeking qualified candidates as Designers for Hull, Mechanical & Electrical (HM&E). Join our team as we keep the most powerful Navy the world has known afloat and ready to serve. This position is contingent upon task award, and the selected candidate must be able to obtain a confidential security clearance to start.

What you will do:
  • Designs components or portions of systems and modifies existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations.
  • Utilizes computer-aided design equipment and/or graphic tools such as, CAD, CAM or CATIA.
  • Gathers information, makes studies, computes calculations, and prepares original rough layouts, sketches to present design proposal.
  • Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning group such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications.
  • Exclude classifications in which incumbents predominantly perform drafting assignments.


What we are looking for:
  • AA or other 2 year technical degree in related discipline and 1 year related experience. HS + 3 years related experience may be substituted for AA degree.
  • Recent experience in the development of AutoCAD drawings for the maritime industry.
  • Must be able to obtain a confidential security clearance to start
  • Experience in ship checking Military vessels (LHD/LHA/LCS/LPD/CVN/etc.) in the Hull, Mechanical, and/or Electrical disciplines.
  • A new Federal Executive Order requires that employees of Federal contractors be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 by December 8, 2021. Accordingly, as a condition of employment with Technical Solutions, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, employees will be required to provide proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 or have an approved exemption prior to starting employment.


Physical Requirements
Ability to work in shipboard environment. Able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, shipboard, shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required. May involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels, riding ships at sea for extended periods. May require the ability to work while wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
