The Opportunity:
As a Tax Technology (Systems), Senior Specialist, you will play a critical role in the design, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of Agoda's tax systems, with a strong focus on indirect tax engines and compliance enablement. Based in Bangkok with Agoda Services Co. Ltd, this role will report to the Tax Data & Technology Associate Director and sit within a broader Tax team that is rapidly expanding in response to the evolving global tax landscape for digital services. While embedded within the Tax and Finance organization, you will work closely with Product, Technology, Supply, Legal, and Senior Leadership teams, as well as collaborate with sister brand companies and our US parent company.

This is a systems‑first, hands‑on role at the intersection of tax, data, and technology. You will design and operationalize tax logic, tax classification, and tax determination within Agoda's tax systems, translating complex tax requirements into scalable solutions that integrate seamlessly with billing platforms, ERP, and compliance tools. The role offers a unique opportunity to influence how tax technology is designed and operated in a high‑growth, platform‑driven environment, while contributing directly to Agoda’s long‑term compliance, automation, and risk‑mitigation strategy.
As Agoda continues to evolve, the scope of this role may expand over time. You will be expected to adapt, grow, and take on new responsibilities as the organization and tax landscape change.
Key Responsibilities
Tax Systems Design & Implementation
- Contribute to the design, implementation, and enhancement of tax and tax-related systems, with a primary focus on indirect tax engines and tax services.
- Partner with Product/Engineering and Finance teams to define, test, and embed tax requirements into core platforms and systems.
- Own and support ERP tax configuration and maintenance, including tax codes and related setup.
- Support the integration and optimization of external tax engines and tools across ERP, billing, and payment systems
- Support tax technology projects end‑to‑end, from requirements gathering and solution design through UAT, go‑live, and transition to business‑as‑usual support.
Indirect Tax Compliance Enablement
- Ensure tax systems are correctly configured to support indirect tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions
- Help embed system support for digital tax requirements such as e‑invoicing, real‑time reporting, and other local mandates as required.
- Support the tax team during audits and inquiries by ensuring accurate system outputs, traceability, and audit readiness.
Tax Data, Controls & Governance
- Support the definition and maintenance of tax‑relevant data models, ensuring data accuracy, consistency, and usability across systems.
- Work with Tax, Finance, and Product/Tech to design and test automated controls within tax processes and systems.
- Document tax processes, system logic, and data flows to support governance, transparency, and control frameworks.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Act as a hands‑on tax technology partner to Finance, Accounting, Product, and Engineering teams.
- Translate tax requirements into clear functional specifications and system logic that technology teams can build against.
- Liaise with external vendors and implementation partners during system upgrades, integrations, and enhancements.
Continuous Improvement & Change
- Identify opportunities to standardize, automate, and simplify tax processes through improved use of systems.
- Stay informed on indirect tax regulatory changes and assess their impact on existing tax technology solutions.
- Contribute to the evolution of the Tax Data & Technology roadmap, supporting a scalable, compliance‑first tax ecosystem.
Qualifications & Skills Required
- 6+ years of experience in tax technology, tax systems or tax transformation projects within a multinational or digital environment.
- Degree in Accounting, Tax Economics/Law, Finance, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field; professional tax or accounting qualification is a plus.
- Proven experience translating indirect tax requirements into tax determination logic and system configurations.
- Hands‑on experience with ERP systems and indirect tax engines, including configuration, testing, and issue resolution.
- Familiarity with automation tools and data analytics platforms (e.g., Alteryx, PowerBI, etc)
- Strong ability to analyze end‑to‑end transaction flows, identifying tax determination gaps, data quality issues, and system limitations.
- Comfortable working cross‑functionally with Product, Engineering, Finance, and Tax to deliver scalable, compliance‑first solutions.
- Clear, structured communicator with strong documentation skills, able to explain tax engine logic and system behavior to non‑technical stakeholders.
- Experience working in agile or iterative delivery environments is a plus.
- Able to adapt and operate effectively in a fast-changing environment, with scope to grow as the role evolves.
