Tooling Manager
This is Adyen
Adyen provides payments, data, and financial products in a single solution for customers like Meta, Uber, H&M, and Microsoft - making us the financial technology platform of choice. At Adyen, everything we do is engineered for ambition.
For our teams, we create an environment with opportunities for our people to succeed, backed by the culture and support to ensure they are enabled to truly own their careers. We are motivated individuals who tackle unique technical challenges at scale and solve them as a team. Together, we deliver innovative and ethical solutions that help businesses achieve their ambitions faster.
About the role: purpose & impact
As the Tooling Manager in the Professional Services Excellence team, you own the tools and systems that PS runs on. You decide what we build, what we buy, and what we retire, and then you make it real. Your work shows up as workflows that run themselves, data that leadership can act on, and delivery teams that spend less time working around their tooling and more time with customers.
This is a build role, not an administration one. You are hands-on: you architect and deploy automation and AI-driven workflows rather than maintaining platforms that someone else selected. This is also a founding role on a new team, so you will help shape how the function operates and where it focuses first, not step into a fixed playbook. You will be the first dedicated owner of tooling in PS, which means the remit is yours to define together with the team.
Your scope is global. The systems you own are used by delivery teams in every region and touch every merchant we onboard, so you will work with leaders and team members across regions and influence stakeholders across time zones. Your impact will show up in faster onboarding, cleaner data, and fewer manual steps between a customer commitment and a delivered project.
What you’ll do
- Own the PS systems landscape
- Own the end-to-end evaluation, procurement, implementation, and administration of the project and work management platforms PS runs on, for example Jira, Monday.com, or equivalent enterprise collaboration and tracking systems. Salesforce sits with a dedicated team and is out of scope.
- Audit and diagnose merchant-facing delivery workflows and internal PS systems, find the structural bottlenecks, and fix them without waiting for a ticket.
- Assess third-party platforms against how PS actually works, weighing what they deliver out of the box against what we would be better off building ourselves.
- Keep the landscape coherent: retire what we no longer need, and push back on tools that solve one narrow problem at the cost of the whole.

- Build automation and AI into how PS delivers
- Architect and deploy production-ready automations, GenAI workflows, and agents that remove friction from merchant onboarding, project handoffs, and delivery.
- Use agentic developer tools and AI coding assistants to build, test, and ship custom solutions yourself, rather than queuing behind engineering capacity for every improvement.
- Make sure our systems, APIs, and data structures are set up so AI solutions can run reliably on top of them, with clean data, sound system logic, and secure access points.
- Work closely with Engineering, Data, and other tooling owners so integrations and connections between systems stay clean as the landscape grows.
- Turn systems into insight and adoption
- Define the reporting framework that comes out of our tooling, and convert raw system data into clear, forward-looking insight that PS leadership can act on.
- Measure whether tools are genuinely used and used well, and act on what that tells you about where the real friction sits.
- Distill complex system dependencies into simple explanations for non-technical stakeholders, and partner with enablement and knowledge owners so documentation and playbooks stay accurate.
- Set and hold the standards for data quality, security, and compliance across the tools and automated workflows you own.
Who you are
- You bring senior-level judgment and presence, with around 7 to 10 years in technical operations, systems or revenue operations, and a track record of scaling delivery infrastructure in a fast-growing environment.
- You are a hands-on builder. You are comfortable with APIs, webhooks, JSON, and relational data structures, and you have used agentic tools and AI coding assistants to ship solutions that people actually use.
- You have advanced configuration and administration skills across modern project management tools, enterprise collaboration suites, and automation platforms, with a strong grasp of data flows and integration dependencies.
- You think in systems, weighing the downstream effects of a configuration choice on data integrity and on how the landscape scales.
- You make high-conviction decisions with incomplete information, and you deploy, test, and iterate quickly rather than waiting for certainty.
- You have a strong sense of ownership. You take accountability when something you own breaks, you are honest about it, and you fix the root cause.
- You translate operational needs into clean system logic, and you explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences without losing them or oversimplifying.
- You enjoy working with a wide range of stakeholders, prioritizing competing requests, managing change, and driving adoption of new ways of working.
- Bonus: you have worked with Rocketlane, or a comparable professional services automation platform, and you know what it takes to run one well rather than simply switch it on.
