As a Staff Engineer for Monetization, you will be the technical compass for how Adyen’s systems earn revenue at scale. Our monetization domain underpins how we price, bill, and account for all Adyen products, making it one of the most impactful areas of the company.
You will focus on the long-term evolution of our architecture: anticipating challenges, spotting opportunities, and ensuring we have the right technical foundations for the next generation of revenue systems. Rather than writing every line of code yourself, you will work closely with Tech Leads and Senior Engineers: coaching, guiding, and aligning them toward excellent, scalable solutions that keep our systems robust and reliable
You’ll have the space to think, innovate, and make high-leverage technical decisions that will shape how Adyen monetizes its products for years to come.
What you’ll do
- Architect and drive adoption of scalable and high-performance data pipelines and monetization framework components.
- Continuously assess and improve existing systems to enhance performance, reliability, and scalability
- Evaluate and integrate new tools and technologies to optimize our monetization ecosystem
- Lead through influence by building strong relationships across the organization
- Proactively define and advocate best practices in terms of performance, code quality, data validation, data governance, and discoverability
- Guide and mentor other engineers in advanced engineering and architectural principles, fostering a culture of learning, innovation, and excellence across teams

Who you are
- Experienced Engineer: 10+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 5 years as a Senior or Staff Engineer leading large-scale backend systems.
- Technical Expert: Deep understanding of server-side engineering principles, with hands-on experience in Java (preferred) or other backend languages.
- Data-Driven: Familiar with data systems and pipelines (SQL, Kafka, Airflow, or similar), and experienced with ensuring data quality and lineage in mission-critical flows.
- Obsessed with Reliability: Familiarity with observability and incident response practices (Prometheus, Grafana, PagerDuty, or equivalents).
- Collaborative Leader: Skilled at influencing without direct authority and aligning diverse stakeholders around shared goals.
- Systems Thinker: Balances long-term architectural vision with pragmatic short-term trade-offs to deliver business value quickly.
- Mentor: Passionate about coaching others and raising the technical bar for the organization.
