In 2005, TED instituted its prestigious TED Prize to honor innovators seeking to change the world. Previous recipients have been humanitarians like Bono, food revolutionaries like Jamie Oliver, and, most recently, JR—who used his 2011 TED Prize to create a global participatory art project called Inside Out. Through the sale of his art, including the image on TED’s wall, JR is helping to fund this inspiring global art movement.
TED began as a conference, but it’s since expanded into a movement with many affiliated programs. Apart from the twice-yearly TED and TEDGlobal conferences, today TED includes programs such as TEDActive, TEDGlobal, TEDx, TEDEd, TED Talks, the TED Prize, and the TED Fellows Program. TED understands that good ideas need space to flourish, and it’s spreading its vision one step—and one program—at a time.
