The Easiest, Healthiest Breakfast Ever: Sneaky Spinach Smoothie

Another new year, another set of resolutions—what’s on your list this year? I usually recycle a few each year (exercise more, sleep more, drink more water, yada, yada, yada) and then add a few new ones, too (take a photography class, bake some cake pops, create a cookbook).

This year I’m making a bigger effort to eat breakfast within 45 minutes of waking up. Supposedly, this is key to getting your metabolism going in the morning, but as we all well know, sometimes it’s hard to fit breakfast in when you’re running around like a crazy person.

Luckily for you (and me), this smoothie recipe is unbelievably simple and takes less time than toasting an English muffin. The Greek yogurt gives a nice protein punch, and there’s a secret superfood ingredient that adds an extra healthy whammy. And, you can eyeball the ingredients, which makes blitzing this up that much easier, not to mention super speedy.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup orange juice (a couple of glugs)
  • 1/4 cup of water (or more juice, if you prefer)
  • 1/2 cup nonfat Greek yogurt (a few spoonfuls)
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1/3 cup frozen raspberries (one handful)
  • 1 cup frozen strawberries (two handfuls)
  • and…

    • 1 handful of fresh spinach
    • I know, I know—it sounds bizarre. But I promise you, you won’t be able to taste it, and it will add a nutritious boost to your smoothie.

Add the orange juice and water to a blender, then the Greek yogurt, and then the rest of the ingredients. Blend till smooth and drink immediately.
