I Survived a Two-Year Job Hunt—and Ended Up Landing My Dream Gig!

Our mission here at The Muse is simple: to help you find your dream job. So, there’s nothing we love more than hearing about it when you do!

Today, we caught up with Tiffany Jones, who found her dream job working as a Field Development Coordinator for TYRA Beauty, helping make the “Beautytainment” company even better. After a two-year job hunt, she’s not only thrilled to have found a job, but to have found one she truly, truly loves.

Hear her story, along with her advice for other job seekers, then check out TYRA Beauty’s offices and see how you can land a great new gig of your own!

Tell us about yourself! Give us your elevator speech.

I’m a California girl through and through! (SoCal, that is!) I love warm, sunny days and all things outdoors. I have a lively spirit and a “glass half-full” mentality. I graduated from CSU Channel Islands and, after a grueling two-year job hunt, I’ve found my place here at TYRA Beauty.

What were you looking for in a job?

I wanted to work for a company I would be proud to represent, a company with values and goals that align with mine. I was looking for like-minded colleagues who know how to get down to business, but who also know how to let loose and have fun. I could ramble off my checklist of “must-haves,” but ultimately I wanted to find a job that made me excited to get up and start my day every morning.

What attracted you to TYRA Beauty?

I stumbled across the TYRA Beauty company profile on The Muse and was immediately attracted to the culture of the business. I decided to do some additional research on TYRA Beauty outside of The Muse to get a better understanding on what the company is all about. The more I read, the more I wanted to know. I was so enthralled by every aspect of this company. From giving people the opportunity to become financially independent and take control of their lives to helping people become successful—I just knew I had to be a part of it!

I went back to The Muse to see what positions were available. As I was reading the job description for field development coordinator, I thought, “This IS me,” and filled out the application. Now here I am!

What’s something most people would find surprising about working at TYRA Beauty?

TYRA Beauty thrives on creative thinking, and if that means we ditch the office for an outdoor work session, then so be it! We do whatever it takes to get the job done, and to get it done right. We like to say, “Innovation doesn’t happen in the boardroom.” (Really, we have it posted on the wall!)

What’s your favorite part so far about working at TYRA Beauty?

One of the things I love the most about TYRA Beauty is that there is no sense of hierarchy. What I mean by that is no matter what level you are at in the company, your ideas and input matter.
From the wildest to the tiniest, no idea goes unheard. We have BFOGs (Big Fierce Outrageous Goals), and our tiny but mighty team is working together to reach them.

Is there anything from The Muse that helped you out in your job hunt?

I definitely read and re-read the article “How to Answer the 31 Most Common Interview Questions” before my interview. I also read “The Best Way to Answer ‘What’s Your Biggest Weakness?’” because that is the one question I always struggle to answer.

What advice would you have for someone who wanted a job like yours?

Triple “P” is key! Positivity, patience, and persistence—if you haven’t found your dream job yet, don’t worry and don’t give up. It’s out there, and you’ll find it!

Once you do, really take the time to make your cover letter personable. It is, after all, the first thing future employers will read about you. Make your first impression a lasting one!
