Applied Materials, Inc. is the global leader in materials engineering solutions used to produce virtually every new chip and advanced display in the world. Our expertise in modifying materials at atomic levels and on an industrial scale enables customers to transform possibilities into reality. At Applied Materials, our innovations Make Possible® the technology shaping the future.
At Applied's CTO group, we focus on enabling technologies for quantum information applications, i.e. superconducting qubits and optical quantum computing. Our primary objective is to collaborate with system companies and universities to develop quantum devices with significantly lower error rates compared to current standards. Our approach centers on harnessing state of the art materials engineering and semiconductor processing to enhance device performance.
To advance our quantum technology initiatives, we are seeking a passionate Superconducting Circuit Quantum Engineer with a strong background in superconducting qubit devices. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience in superconducting circuit/device design, micro/nanofabrication, and cryogenic characterization, and will apply this expertise to develop novel materials, processes, and devices for emerging quantum information technologies. We value people and teams who turn possibilities into reality. We are deeply committed to fostering a Culture of Inclusion where every person knows they belong, feels empowered to bring their whole self to work, and is inspired to grow.
Responsibilities- Design and develop superconducting quantum circuits and devices, including qubits, resonators, couplers, and related test structures.
- Develop and optimize fabrication processes for superconducting quantum devices, with emphasis on materials, interfaces, patterning, deposition, etch, and device integration.
- Design experiments, collect and analyze data, and translate results into actionable improvements in materials, processes, device design, and performance.
- Troubleshoot complex device and process issues, perform root-cause analysis, and develop solutions to improve device performance, yield, and reproducibility.
- Measure and analyze relevant material, electrical, microwave, and device properties and interpret their impact on superconducting quantum circuit performance.
- Collaborate across materials, process engineering, device design, characterization, and integration teams to develop new quantum technologies.
- Evaluate and implement new materials, fabrication technologies, characterization techniques, and analytical instrumentation.
- Generate high-quality technical documentation, reports, presentations, and development plans for internal and external stakeholders.
- Engage with customers, research partners, vendors, and suppliers to address technical challenges and identify new technology opportunities.
