Overview

Waters Corporation is seeking a Materials Scientist to help advance bio therapeutics through the research and development of new chemical tools that facilitate the characterization and quantitation of biological molecules. This is an exciting opportunity to join our Biopharm Portfolio in the Chemistry & Lab Automation Business Unit and take the lead on the development of new chromatographic stationary phase materials. In this Senior Scientist position, you will work with a diverse team of scientists and engineers across the organization, apply yourself as a highly influential individual contributor, and have a major impact on the world's newest therapeutics.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the research and development of new inorganic, polymeric, and hybrid materials for biological product characterization and quantitation applications.
  • Apply your knowledge and experience of surface chemistry to modify polymer and silica surfaces to facilitate the separation of biological molecules.
  • Conduct site-specific modification of constructs to allow orientation advised conjugation.
  • Collaborate with engineers, analytical chemists, application scientists, and production colleagues to ensure product performance and drive product development timelines.
  • Accurately detail research findings and maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Stay up-to-date on literature in your research area and pursue intellectual property opportunities.
  • Comply with environment, safety, health, and quality program requirements.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry or related discipline. A minimum of 2 years of proven experience in leading a project preferred.
  • Strong background in polymer materials science including emulsion techniques and surface grafting.
  • Experience with different proven surface bioconjugation approaches and the quantification of biomolecules immobilized to solid surfaces is a plus.
  • Knowledge in the areas of bioprocessing, biomolecular interactions, recombinant engineering, protein expression, site specific protein modification, and biomolecular characterization approaches are desired.
  • Knowledge of liquid chromatography theory and material characterization.
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently following high level mentorship and the ability to set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines.
  • Willingness to learn different techniques, have a positive attitude, and collaborative spirit.
