Your New Role...

This editorial liaison role is to protect CNN's existing business and editorial relationships in Asia, especially in Japan. This Tokyo-based bilingual (Japanese/English) role is the editorial Global Newssource (GNS) lead on-the-ground for all things between CNN and our Japanese clients. In addition, the role will support regional and global growth opportunities as determined by GNS and CNNIC (CNN International Commercial) .

Your Role Accountabilities...

50% of time spend

- You will work closely with the GNS team/CNN leadership & regional directors from TV Asahi's & JCTV's facilities a few days a week, making sure CNN's content and services are prioritized in their coverage, providing editorial guidance, facilitating solutions for issues that may come up, as well as route queries appropriately.

- Reporting directly to CNN, you will partner with TV Asahi teams to help support them in newsgathering, including newscasts, breaking news, features and other content to ensure that editorial quality and CNN standards are delivered. While not overseeing editorial, you will review content as appropriate, and support story presentation to ensure coverage is thorough and competitive, establishing and achieving editorial goals and deadlines.

- Improve workflow between CNN teams and Japanese clients so both can mutually benefit from shared content for all platforms, especially during breaking news. Facilitate easy video transmission from TV Asahi to CNN.

- You'll build trust and good relationships with Japanese clients' senior management, finding opportunities and solutions where CNN needs to bridge gaps to improve on services.

- The ability to communicate clearly and effectively with colleagues in Japan - in local language - as well as stakeholders across the network, will be key to ensuring that all relevant parties are well informed.

20% of time spend

- Works from the CNN Tokyo bureau coordinating efforts between CNN teams and other Japanese clients such as NHK, identifying opportunities for growth and improving relationships.

- Supports the Sales team's goals to grow business with them or other potential Japanese clients.

- You will also be expected to serve as a resource for CNN or its affiliates, particularly during breaking news, as appropriate. Some level of travel is expected.

20% of time spend

- Newsgather, create and distribute content (digital & broadcast) to all clients and affiliates.

- Manage Newsource live channels that are available to all affiliates and update daily planner/coverage as needed.

- Help clear third-party content for CNN to distribute to all affiliates.

10% of time spend

- Write stories for digital and basic TV scripts.

- Coordinates with GNS leadership and the rest of the Sales team to support business opportunities outside Japan. The closest markets are South Korea and China, which means travel is required for those assignments.

Qualifications & Experiences..

Minimum

- At least 3 years of experience in news and newsroom management, including field producing.

- Experience in managing and directing others helpful.

- Experience working independently and setting editorial priorities is essential.

- The successful candidate needs to possess superior news judgement and deliver in a fast-paced breaking news environment. Calmness and initiative in dealing with a big breaking news story.

- Fluent written and spoken English and Japanese

- Solid knowledge of international affairs

- Exceptional planning and organizational skills. Should have a close eye for detail.

- Solution-oriented person who tries to reconcile where there is conflict or major misunderstanding.

Desirable

- Fluent written and spoken Korean OR Mandarin Chinese is a plus

- At least a 3-year experience in digital and broadcast production

- Video editing skills

Work Location
you will be required to work across two-three locations:

at TV-Asahi/JCTV (Roppongi)

at Tokyo Bureau (Toranomon)

at NHK/Other client partner (once a week)
